Carol Sue I saw that about long fasts should be done under doctor's supervision and then reading information on chemo says that if your doctor doesn't put you on a special diet then eat any differently than you eat. The only thing they have ever told me is to eat protein. Otherwise they never really told me to eat any other way but healthy.
Weight today was 160 and FBG was 108 and BP was 132/65. So that was good. DH took the 24 hr urine test in and had to reschedule my doctor's appointment and infusion if I get to have it. Doctor and his nurses won't be there next week. The lady I like to help me schedule my appts, was out today but no one bothered to tell me. So when DH took the jug in, he had to reschedule the drs and infusion appts for me and it is set for April 25th. This gives me time to have get my hair cut and permed next Tuesday and my bone density test done Wednesday and they will have time for the results to come in so oncologist can read it before I see him.
This has been a very tiring day and week. I ate 1606 calories within 5 hrs. I hope it will help me start getting my IF done sensibly. I think eating within my own personal way of doing Intuitive Eating within 4 to 8 hr eating window.
I'm tired and hope to get a good nights sleep. I'm glad you are resting better.
Goodnight. Hope Mad is doing good with her recovery.

Scale 176. FBG 166. I rarely check fasting but I consider that good. I know its not, but its good for me!
Trish, I chuckle when I hear someone say you should eat healthy because its controversial as to what is healthy eating. I think medical personnel means fruits and vegetables, lean protein, healthy fat, etc. But there are carnivores that won't eat vegetables and only eat beef, with lots of fat, and they insist that is healthy. I think everyone agrees that no sugar is healthy, except my husband and his brother. When I had my bowel surgery the nurses all told me to have protein at every meal, but they never heard of protein shakes when I asked about them. My SIL said that protein shakes are for weight GAIN because that's what bodybuilders do. It builds their muscles and muscles weigh more than fat. So step daughter won't drink them. They eat a lot of meat, though, and not much carb. Neither of them is fat, but step daughter has a belly, like her grandma.
I hope you can get your infusion. You need to keep up with that. I was reading an article yesterday and the next article that came up was for eating for cancer. It was pretty much the way you eat. If you want bc to see it I can send it to you but I don't think it will be anything you don't already do.
It is a good thing I didn't have to go for the infusion today. I would have had to cancel. I was sick yesterday after dinner. I finally threw up and then had cramps most of the night. When I went to bed I took my bedtime pills and got relief when I fell asleep. I didn't get up until after 11 am. I think something I ate caused it. I will probably sleep most of the day, but I decided to let you know what is going on so you won't worry about me. I'm okay. Just a belly ache that should be over in a day or so.
Weight was 158 lbs, FBG was 112 and BP 115/61. I will check back when I am better. I hope you are feeling okay and have a good day.
Feeling better tonight. I finally got the results of my 24 hr urine test and I don't think I will be taking the infusion any more... not of this medicine I've been on. I can't take it once the test hits 2000 and it was 2300. They will take me off of it now and supposedly it will come back down. I just know what they will give me next. They had talked about a pill that I could take the rest of my life so I don't know if we go to that or what.

Trish, what does the 2300 number represent?
Scale was 177 this morning, so up 1 lb. This is not weight gain per se,but I did not take the other half of my lasix yesterday. By the time I remembered it was too late to take it. Too close to bedtime. I got up around 7 am and took it so I will weigh again around 10_which is when I normally weigh. I rarely weigh more than once but this is different.
I was hungry during the night So I ate when I got up. Also unusual. DH made waffles last night but he doesn't use enough batter so they are only half waffles. He doesn't fill the waffle iron all the way to the edges. Today I toasted 2 which was 1 in total, and put a fried egg on top of each. I put the waffles in the freezer in case I want one another day. I freeze the pancakes he makes, too, for future eating. He only makes these things once in a while. He usespancake/waffle mix that you just add watee, and he never measures anything.. Just dumps some mix in a bowl and adds water from the fawcet. No measuring. They turn out ok but the waffle batter might be wrong. I can't complain. You can NEVER tell him he is doing something wrong! He will never do it again. I wish that worked with gambling.
I remember when you first started cancer treatment you said you would take a pill the rest of your life. I think that is more convenient than infusions.
How is your hair? Has it grown back? It should, as your nutrition is excellent.
I listened to a talk about magnesium. I need to start taking it again but I think mine is old. I hate to waste it but it might not be effective..

I'm not exactly sure what the 2300 mg means. DH medical book says that means there is too much protein in the body, but doctor said I need to eat the protein because it means my body is throwing out too much and I need to replace it.
I know I need protein and that IF is very helpful. I started watching Dr. Berg again and he had doctor Eric Westman who is the doctor at Duke's University who has helped so many people lose weight etc doing research on Atkin's diet and I think and Phinney wrote a book together on low carbing. He now has an online course on how to do keto. He has some really good information and so does Dr. Berg. Berg has a lot of videos guiding people on how to do Keto/IF telling people what they are doing wrong and how to correct it. He does not push eating loads of protein and he says you should really eat so that you are fasting at least 18 hrs a day. He actually eats 3 meals a day. He says when you wake up in the morning and your not hungry, don't eat. In fact, he says eat only when you are hungry. He says you want to spread your eating of 3 meals and don't eat between meals you are still fasting as far as he is concerned. Any way some of his suggestions remind me of how I used to eat growing up and was naturally thing. I seldom ate breakfast and ate lunch and supper and only as much as it took to satisfied me. So I am going to go back and watch his videos and see what he says now that he has added IF to his suggestions. One thing I heard him say as some things are just balancing. He said in order to get fluid off that what causes the swelling is you aren't taking enough potassium. He says you have to be taking in more potassium than the sodium you are eating and the fluid will come off. I am thrilled to learn that because I won't have to take 2 fluid pills and my not have to take even one. I started back on potassium today. Another thing I like is he doesn't push eating an excessive amount of protein and I saw some where that he said that they tell us not to eat red meat and red meat is the best meat for healing our bodies. So I'm going to try it.
There are oncologists who are using Keto/Fasting to treat cancer successfully. My doctor is going to a oncology conference this next week I pray he will come back at least open to try it. I am concerned about side effects getting on a new medicine, but a pill would be so much more convenient.
Weight was up to 158.8 this morning. FBG 107 and BP 118/64 and HB 66.
This article says IF is not good! But I know different people say different things about it.
I think I have the book by Westman and Phinney. Not sure.Do they say not to eat red meat? I don't eat much beef. It is not a favorite. I prefer pork and chicken.
I try to not have an excess of Potassium or Phosphorus because they are bad for kidneys.I think the kidney issues I had in the hospital were because they gave me the dye but did not let me have water to flush out out, while having me on the diuretic. I never got to discuss that with the cardiologist. In the past when I had the dye they emphasised to drink lots of water, and I always did.
My SIL borrowed DH roto tiller and it broke. I can't say he broke it but maybe it just wore out. Now SIL bought a new one. I wonder if DH will borrow it? He rarely borrows things. He doesn't want to be responsible.
Im so hungry but DH hasn't mentioned dinner. There are things here I could eat but not him. He wanted to go to the casino but I said no. He is going to say that every day until I go. I might as well just face it. Most of the food at the casino I don't like. I like the Asian station but it's high carb. He only eats the hot dogs. I don't like their hot dogs. But we aren't going today!
I know that article is out there but it wasn't a legit research it was a small group of articles taken out of over 780 articles that said what they wanted it to say. None of any of the other articles confirmed that fasting was harmful to heart. Of course I believe everyone has to do what they believe is best for them. I do what I believe is good for me regardless what someone else says or thinks I should do.
I found Dr. Westman's YouTube videos on what he says and then I will take the best plan for me. I am back to my 20 hr fast and my 4 hr eating way. I had 937 calories and I won't be making myself eat the number of calories they push on MFP. I did eat a healthy number of potassium and magnesium so I only took one Lasix this morning. Carbs were net 46 and Dr. Berg says keep them around 50. Dr. Westman says count all carbs not net. I've seen that on some low carb/keto diets that is recommended for cancer patients. My day has been a very good day.

Scale is 177 today but its only 5 am,much earlier than I usually weigh. I forgot to weigh again yesterday. I did not take the other half of the Lasix again yesterday. I try to take it no later than 6 pm but if I don't remember until 8 pm that's too late for me.
Trish,I just wanted to show you that article because it was there. I've never read anything like that before either. Everything I've read said that fasting is healthy and doesn't cause any problems. When I read something on the internet I try to find the same information in several places before I accept it as fact. Anyone can put anything on the internet. I have been doing some form of IF off and on for several years, plus I did it for years when I was younger. I have heart issues, but they are hereditary, plus the valve that was faulty from birth. No cardiologist has ever told me not to fast or skip meals. In fact, they tell me to fast for blood tests and medical procedures. I have always been overweight so they would probably never think that I would skip a meal. Like you,I do what I think is best for me. When I read things on the internet another article always pop-up when I'm finished, and sometimes I read them and sometimes not. Thats where this one came from and there was another similar one after that.
There is a woman on Active Low Carb named Jey and she has followed Dr Westman for years and always promotes him. Thats how I first heard of him. I have read a lot by him. I always wonder what will happen when this generation of doctors is gone, will there be new doctors who follow the same path,or will there be new information that they promote. We won't be here to see that.
When I was in school I could never eat breakfast because food nauseated me in the morning. There was never anything to take for lunch and no money to buy lunch. So I fasted all day until dinner. Sometimes at lunch other kids would give me things they didn't want. I always heard that if they saw that you were not eating they would call you in and ask why but they never asked me. There was no free lunch program back then. It was after I started working and had money that I started eating lunch in restaurants and gained a lot of weight. When I reached 150 lbs I started my first diet and joined the Y to exercise. I lost, and kept it off until I got married. It's been a battle since then. I am strongly influenced by what DH is eating and his eating schedule. The two things that have helped me the most are carbs below 70 and I F. Through all my years of dieting,50 years or more, one thing that stuck in my mind was not eating at night. Nothing after dinner. Going to bed hungry always helped me sleep better and control my weight. If I ate at bedtime I woke up hungry. If I went to bed hungry I was never hungry when I woke up. DH has always ate before bed. But he ate bran cereal and I think that was good for him. Now he still does that sometimes but its also sweets or sandwiches. He never goes to bed without eating .
So I need to get back to what works for me and dismiss what he's doing.
I have always counted whole carbs, never net. The only time I pay attention to net carbs is with the SL Delightful bread. I realize I am not eating vegetables like I used to. They were always my go to to keep me from overeating on other things. And I'm still hearing that the vegetables is what keeps my weight down. I need to get back to what worked for me in the past.
Carol Sue I've always said that if I had not allowed others to influence me to eat what they called "normal woe", I would never have had a weight problem. They would insist I eat and then fuss for me to lose weight because I was eating too much. I am not going to do that any more. I do better with 2MAD and no sugar.
I am going to read/listen to some other info of Dr. Westman and Dr. Berg. Dr. Berg pushes loads of veggies but I don't think I can eat that many. However, he does suggest at least a big salad for lunch and a couple cups of cooked veggies at dinner. He gave an example of him buying organic packaged argula and opens it and pours evoo and vinegar on it to eat his salad from it. I like that example because there are others you can eat that way. He doesn't recommend spinach because the acid in spinach causes gout. So much to learn from both of these doctors.
Weight was still 158.8 lbs and FBG was 107 and BP 132/64. So I am happy with how things are going so far. We are having pork chop and a nice salad. For supper I will boil some eggs and make a chicken salad with olives.
Oh yes I watched a female oncologist who treats patients with radiation who uses keto and thinks more doctors should check into keto or some other diet with cancer patients more. Dr. Westman says that keto/low carb is not the only diet research being studied at Duke's University. They welcome more.

Trish,I never had anyone try to influence me to eat any woe,but my problem is when I'm around someone I want what they are eating. Im just better off on my own.
I did our taxes today and was surprised that we don't owe anything. Tomorrow morning I will double check it to be sure its right then I can take it to the post office when we go to Wal-Mart and Goodwill. I tried doing it online once and I couldn't figure it out.
I might check out Dr Berg because I like eating a lot of vegetables, especially cooked. And it really helps me with my blood sugar and weight. I would like to see what he has to say. I am not much on salad but will eat some of DHs when he gets one. I don't like a lot of things they put in them at restaurants. At home, DH will only eat iceberg lettuce.
Because we didn't owe taxes I was in a really good mood, so DH took advantage of that and talked me into going to the local casino. I normally don't like it but we did well. I won 2 small jackpots totaling $900-+. Then later I won $100 and DH won $200. We were happy.
Step daughter made Reuben sandwiches and gave us the leftover meat, bread, cheese and sauerkraut. Tomorrow I will buy Thousand Island dressing and make a sandwich for lunch. I don't know if DH will eat that. She wanted to give us the dressing but DH told her no, we don't eat that. You have to have it for a reuben! So I will buy a,small bottle at WALMART.
Carol Sue that is great about the winnings and owing no taxes.
I'm through reading about how I want to eat. Dr. Westman says there are so many ways to do keto these days. He has always done Low Carb and still does and keeping carbs low at 20 or 30. Dr. Berg suggests 50 grams carbs. So I am going to use some of both of their ideas to make my own plan.
Overate but calories were in1300s. Over did carbs. I won't be able to start low carb until I can go to the store Tuesday or Wednesday when we go out. My beautician moved her shop to a little house on her property next to her house. My hair has to be stripped of the chemicals from the chemo and I don't trust anyone but her to do it so I'm going to have her strip, cut and perm my hair. It will be nice to be able to have curl again. Then Wednesday I go for a bone density test. I want to go to the local store to get some good veggies for my salads,
