November 10th, 2008
Weight: 142.2, with a bowl of oatmeal in my belly because I had a harried morning and forgot to weigh in before I ate. But anyway, progress in the RIGHT direction.
MOVIE NIGHT: At least five or six people want in, and Big Prof is our tech savvy chick and can set up the chat. So now the question is: chat during the movie, or set a chat date and everyone watch the movie prior to the chat date. What do ya’ll think?
Breakfast: oatmeal
Lunch: tba UPDATE: plan was to walk to subway, but instead we ended up driving to Arby’s, after having walked to the door of subway and finding out that the extra kid I had in tow “doesn’t eat that.” Stupid kid. Anyway, food: I had a regular roast beef, no cheese. And a diet coke. That’s it. Who’s your daddy?
Snack: peanut butter granola bar.
Water intake: absolutely ZERO today. I suck.
Dinner: tba UPDATE: 3/4 of a sweat potato, 1/2 an organic pair and a small side salad. And a diet coke.
10k training: rest day, I’ll take it
Other exercise: Plank day, shooting for 1 minute 10 seconds. UPDATE: I did an Exercise TV 11 minute Ab Ball Workout. Then I died. Then the paramedics revived me and I held a plan for 1 minute and 3 seconds. Then I died again, for real this time.
UPDATE: Also spent over two hours doing household chores. That had to burn at least a calorie or two.
Run Report
November 9th, 2008
Well, I am finally ready to sit down and write my run report. What contributes to being “ready”? Well, not laying in bed with a headache (which I have been doing for the past four hours), plus having hubby out of the bed, where he was laying next to me while I had my headache doing things not conducive to getting over a headache, like playing video games and asking me questions.
Before I start, let me get this out of the way: just did my 50 mo fo pushups and 50 mo fo sit ups. Thank you very much.
The run. I got up early (for me, for a Saturday) and was out the door by 7:15 a.m., dressed for the elements, but turns out there weren’t any elements and it was 52 degrees, cloudy, breezy, but not a rain drop fell while I was running. Amen.
My route took me a couple of miles up a steady but subtle incline, then I hit some hills, then downhill for the home stretch. I did this on purpose, because I usually run in the oppose direction, and do the downhill run first, feeling strong, and then have to run uphill home, feeling dead.
I set off at my slow and steady rate, not pushing it, thinking in my head that five miles is a long freaking time to be running and to just take it easy. I hit the one mile mark at 12:00 exactly, so that was nice and easy. The easy continued and I hit the two mile mark at 23:00 exactly. I did not take any walk breaks, but I did have to pause for traffic at intersections briefly in those first two miles. I hit the mile 3 mark at 34:47 and then things got a little dicey.
That’s when I hit the hills. The earliest part of the stretch between mile 3 and mile 4 was kind of brutal and I did have to take two walk breaks up hills, but neither break lasted for a full minute, so they don’t really count under my own personal rules of running. I hit the 4 mile mark at 47:47, so definitely my slowest mile.
After that, I cruised downhill to get home and hit the 5 mile mark at 57:01, so definitely my best mile was my last mile.
I have to say, my run felt great. My breathing was good, my feet and legs felt good, the weather was perfect. Everything was good. It was one of those days when I could see myself running a marathon. I do not understand the psychology of running, and I have yet to figure out how I could feel so strong and powerful on a five mile run, yet just as easily feel defeated and beat down after a two mile run on another given day. There seems to be no logic to it. So I will just take the victories where I find them and savor them, and this one was definitely a victorious run.
After my run, I soaked in the tub for 40 minutes, got dressed, went to church and did my volunteer stuff plus went to mass, so two hours at church. Then I took DD9 shopping for some pants and bought myself a pair of Vera Wang size 12 jeans. They are HOT. And not to be gloaty, but I totally got into the 10 and was able to button and zip them (while standing up no less). But the muffin top in the 10 was just too horrible, so I stuck with the 12.
Came home, at leftover chicken fajitas and developed a raging headache. Came to bed at about 3 pm and stayed there until 6 pm, not sleeping, but just kicking back. DD9 was off at a friend’s house, DD15 is out of town and DS20 is at work, so it was blissfully quiet here, except for DH and his retarded video game.
I am now going to go throw a sweet potato in the oven for my supper. Yum.
Life is good, chicks, life is good.
Spirit of the Marathon… the Chick’s screening
November 9th, 2008
OK, so Big Prof can set up the chat for us, now we just need to work out the logistics.
I see two approaches, chime in if you can come up with something better.
Approach one is we find a day/time when everyone can log into the chat, and we watch the movie and chat throughout. Approach two is we set a day/time for a chat, and everyone watches the movie at their own convenience BEFORE the chat time, and then we can talk about it.
I’m up for either, looking for ideas of how to make it work best!
Happy Sunday : )
Sunday
November 9th, 2008
I forgot to log my weight, but Friday and Saturday morning were both 140.8.
So imagine my surprise when this morning it was 143.8! WTF? Three pounds in one day? It can’t be true.
Then I looked over my food for yesterday and realized that I didn’t write down the fun sized kit kat bar, or the fun sized crunch bar, or the 27 pounds of tortilla chips with guacamole. Crap.
So the plan for today is LOW CAL, try to keep it under 1000 and as low fat as possible.
Breakfast: pre-run: granola bar and water, post-run: fat free yogurt with a bag of JC cereal, lots of water
Snack: 1/2 of a glazed donut
Lunch: one left over chicken fajita, reasonable amount of chips and guacamole, diet coke
Dinner: tba UPDATE: cup of JC tomato soup, small side salad, a baked sweet potato with low cal spray butter. All delish. Two caramels for dessert from DD9’s Halloween bag.
10k training: I ran five miles this morning! It took me 57 minutes. I will write a more detailed run report later because I am so full of myself for running five miles that I just want to go on and on and on about it. Feel free to skip that post later : )
Other exercise: GOAL: 50 sit ups, 50 push ups AND one minute of plank. UPDATE: Did the sit ups and the pushups but my watch is downstairs so I couldn’t do my plank because I have no way to time it, unless I wan ALLLLLLL the way downstairs and get my watch.
Saturday
November 8th, 2008
Breakfast: oatmeal and water
Lunch: Panda Express — they gave me about 1/16th of a cup of chicken and mushroom stirfry and 17 gallons of rice. I hate the chicken/mushroom and about 1 cup of rice. Bastards.
Dinner: Chicken fajitas, I had one, plus a scoop of beans and a diet coke. Followed by a jenny craig cheesecake.
10k training: cross training day - I walked 1.25 miles, IN THE RAIN, to my daughter’s soccer game. The IN THE RAIN part was not intentional or I would not have walked.
Other exercise: scheduled for 50 push ups and 50 sit ups. I’ll let you know if I actually do them! UPDATE: Yeah, not so much feeling the love for the exercise today. I’ll make it up, I swear I will.
Chick’s Movie Night
November 8th, 2008
I have this great idea… no! wait! stop! don’t go! really, it’s a good idea, I swear.
We need to have a chick’s movie night. I have heard raving great things about “Spirit of the Marathon,” a documentary about marathon runners that tracks six athletes of different abilities (beginner thru pro) in their prep and running of a marathon.
I just checked and it is available for rental on iTunes for $3.99 and on Amazon Video On Demand for $2.99. I have used both of those services to watch movies before and it’s really easy and awesome. I especially like amazon because I can purchase a movie and then have it sent to my Tivo instead of my laptop where I can watch it on the big TV. But, I digress.
Here’s what I am thinking. We find a night that we can all escape our families for a movie, or a weekend day, whatever (it’s 1 hour 45 minutes long) and one of you chicks that is techie smart finds a way to set up a live chat room for us, and we can all watch the movie and have a live chat about it.
Doesn’t that sound like fun? And it doesn’t involve any squats or sit ups!
MORE GREAT THINKING: And if you have little kids who will never in a million years leave you alone to watch a movie… you download it, then take your laptop to a Starbucks or the library or wherever with wi fi, put your headphones on to watch and, voila, movie night! Or just lock the door on them, and stuff a towel underneath to muffle their screams… not that I have ever done anything like that, mind you, haha.
Friday
November 8th, 2008
Wah, had to work all day and didn’t do a good job tracking food. Hoping I can recreate. Plus, there was happy hour. Ah, happy hour.
Breakfast: granola bar and glass of water
Lunch: went to a cajun restaurant with hubby. I had a poboy combo, which had fried shrimp, fried oysters and fried catfish. No side dish, but i did have a small bread pudding dripping in butter sauce for dessert.
Dinner: went to happy hour at a canteen. Two giant ass margaritas plus two or three beers. Munched on chips and salsa, had one small steak taco and one wedge of a chicken quesadilla. Burned some of it off when i walked the 1/3 mile home and left my car there because I was unfit to drive. Then burned a little more off when I walked the 1/3 mile back later on when I had sobered up and reclaimed my car.
10k training: scheduled day off, which was nice
Other exercise: decided to take the scheduled day off with my “other” stuff as well.
Work: almost caught up!
Daily Hydration Reminder
November 6th, 2008
I have been drinking a ton of water because I have been getting Twitter updates on my cell phone from Stephanie, who blogs at Back in Skinny Jeans. Go to BISJ, and if you like Stephanie’s ideas, follow her on twitter here. If you have your twitter account set up to receive text messages on your cell phone, you’ll get quick little texts from Stephanie throughout the day reminding you to go drink water and giving you happy thoughts about healthy living and body image.
Sounds stupid, but when I get a text message that says GO DRINK A GLASS OF WATER NOW, I do it. I would probably also drink the Kool-Aid if directed to do so.
And if you do set up a twitter account, add me and I’ll add you! And we can text all day and be BFFs and brush each others’ hair and have pillow fights.
Thursday
November 6th, 2008
Weight: 140.8
Breakfast: oatmeal and tea
Lunch: UPDATE: steak quesadilla, which was scrumptious. No chips or salsa (but only because my friend forget to get it when she picked up the take out order, haha). Diet coke.
Snack: granola bar. Drank lots of water today, yay!
Dinner: UPDATE: one leftover pork chop and a scoop of mashed potatoes with gravy. Diet coke. Bag of JC chocolate chip cookies.
10k training: On the treadmill, ran 2.35 miles. Goal was run for 30 minutes. I ran for 27 and walked for 3-4 minutes for a total of about 2.5 with the walking added in. My run pace was ssllooww, 5.3 mph x 1 mile, then dropped down to a 5.0 mph jog.
Other exercise: plank goal: 45 seconds full, 30 seconds on elbows. UPDATE: I sure as hell hope you are all sitting down, chicks, because I held my full on plank for A FULL MINUTE. Holla! Of course, then I died and was unable to do my elbow plan for more than 20 seconds, on account of being dead and all.
Wednesday
November 5th, 2008
Weigh in: 140.2
Breakfast: 16 oz jamba juice. I am not going to be strictly measuring, but I did happen to look at the menu while I was there, so I know it is 280 calories and 1 gram of fat.
Lunch: tba UPDATE: garden salad with fat free dressing, JC tomato soup (50 cal and fat free) and a bag of JC cheese curls, diet coke
Dinner: tba UPDATE: Had one porkchop, a heap of mashed potatoes and gravy, a garden salad and diet coke. Dessert was a “fun size” 3 muskateers. I could have done with about 1/2 the potatoes that I had, but I finished mine, they were delish, and when DD9 didn’t finish hers, I ate them too. OLD HABITS DIE HARD. OR LET ME AMEND THAT: OLD HABITS NEVER DIE, JUST WHEN YOU THINK THEY ARE DEAD THEY COME BACK TO LIFE. Ugh.
10k training: scheduled 2 mile run. UPDATE: hit the treadmill and ran two miles at 5.6 mph. No speed adjustments or springs or breaks, just did the full 21 whatever minutes at 5.6 with REM in my ears and Regis and Kelly on my screen. Feeling like The Flash, what, with my superhuman speed of 5.6 mph. Drank a big glass of water after the run.
Other exercise: scheduled 50 sit ups and 50 push ups. UPDATE: done. 25 pushups, 25 sit ups, 15 pushups, 25 sit ups, 10 pushups
