WORST WEIGH IN EVER
May 21st, 2008
Went in for my weigh in this week and I am UP 1.6 F*ING POUNDS. I don’t even know how that is possible. I went over my food log, nothing out of the ordinary there. I UPPED my exercise to four out of the last seven days, where I had been averaging 3/7.
I will not go so far as to accuse the Jenny Craig scale of being faulty (haha) but I do not see how this is possible. No TOM issues. No unusually heavy clothing or jewelry. I don’t feel almost two pounds up. I feel really good, actually! I thought I had a good week food wise and exercise wise and I felt certain of a loss of at least a pound.
This is very disappointing. I have not been on my scale in weeks, and now I am feeling compelled to start weighing myself again so I don’t have another “surprise” at my next weigh in.
Woe is me : (

Muscle weighs more than fat (it also burns more calories overall than fat)…you may be up because you’ve been running so much lately, your fat is going down, but lean muscle mass is going up.
I think you should read this as a temporary glitch owing to your increased exercise & things will balance out perfectly (and beautifully) next week.

I agree with prof. And don’t give up!

hang in there - the scale can be really evil! I’ve gone through periods where it was more sane to weigh daily so I didn’t have surprises like that, and others where daily weighing made me nuts and I stopped it.
Your body will eventually catch up to what’s going on.
Did you weigh first thing in the morning? I find my weight varies by about 4-7 pounds during the day, so any weigh in that isn’t first thing in the morning is pretty useless information. Also, your body can hold onto more water if you’ve eaten more carbs and or sodium in the day or two before (if my memory is correct the JC meals have a lot of sodium in them). And building muscle also calls water molecules into play.
All told, plenty of things can explain 1.6 pounds — keep your focus on the fact you are eating well and exercising well, and keep the scale in perspective - eventually it will catch up!

Just to clarify about the first comment..muscle does not weigh more than fat…a pound is a pound no matter what it is..its just that fat takes up more ROOM in the body then muscle but a pound of fat= a pound of muscle..its the space it takes up that is the difference
