Wow…Has it been this long already since I’ve logged anything here? Hmmm…Oops.
Things have been going crazy at work, and then with school on top of it, it’s just been craziER. I am having hard time even with logging into 3FC forum. tsk tsk Tara…

Let’s see. I got Hip Hop Abs and started this Monday..I can’t really tell if it’s really working or not yet but we will see. I got not even a week left till leaving for Korea and I still am at 174. Really wanted to see 169 before I leave…or at least say g’bye to 170’s but I don’t know. Looks like it may not happen. Well. It will be one hella week of trying though…

As far as personal life goes, I think my bf finally got a decent regular job. AT MY COMPANY. lol. I talked to my TL and he got him a position but my company is quite big and they have like tons and tons of project… I more than likely will never even see him at work. Especially since I work at night. I think it will be a refreshing change. AFTER seeing him every single day for every waking moment, almost. And I finally got him to get driver’s license for this state, too. Yeah, he’s been here over a year now and we just got him one. I know. SLOW. huh? Grr.. At least I take care of bills and stuff.

I have to get all, and I mean ALL my homework before going to Korea. I talked to my professors and they were actually nice enough to post the homeworks on the website earlier than supposed to so I will have about a week to finish them before I go…and VACATION!!! OMG! I can’t wait!

So.. I better get going. and do some homework.

Oh what a horrible horrible weekend I had…
In the middle of last week, I was at little bit under 175 and then my bf brought whole bunch of bagels, muffins, danish, quiche… Sigh… Yeah. You know where I’m going. Then potluck at work on Sunday.
So this morning, I was at 177-178… So much for “3 weeks left, let’s go, tara”…
I did a good workout today, though, for 55 minutes. A mix of cardio and strength. Good. I didn’t do that bad for food either. Well, kinda bad but I didn’t eat when I wasn’t hungry…I had a muffin and 6 inch subway. And water. Lots of water.
I wasn’t really going to go grocery shopping since I didn’t want to waste food while gone for 2 wks..but then again, I don’t have any veggies or fruits at home. So tomorrow morning, we are going to go get some absolutely necessary ones. Hopefully that will help me with food choices for next 2.5 weeks.
And I’m going to up my cardio. I really want to pass 170’s before I leave for Korea since I will be having lots of Korean food….and I want to weigh as little as possible. I will be doing mostly cardio while there since I won’t have access to weights but my parents have stationary bike and treadmill at home. Yay!
Okay, enough with my ramble… I better get back to work…

Thursday. My “bad” day at work. My Team Leader stays late and have one on one meeting and we all order dinner at the beginning of the shift. (My shift is 8 PM-430 AM) So I prepared for it all day.

I had half serving of oatmeal with little bit of unsalted almonds. Then I had half of 100 cal pack. That’s all I had… then pad thai at work.

My workout…I did C25K Wk7. That would be 2.5 miles…25 minutes. Then I did 15 minutes of pilates. Not that much but I decided to lose the ALL OR NOTHING mentality. Please refer to below from Jillian Michaels.

Slow and Steady
Remember the fable about the tortoise and the hare? The hare got off to a zippy start and seemed sure to win the race. But he didn’t, did he? The tortoise, while naturally much slower than the hare, kept moving steadily towards the finish line and was able to cross first.

What’s the take-home message of this fable? Slow and steady wins the race. To reach your weight-loss goals, you need to switch from the hare’s to the tortoise’s mindset. In other words, you must break the “all or nothing” mentality.

Do you start diets with superhuman resolve — determined to eat right and work out seven days a week without fail — only to fall off the wagon and give up hope?

This kind of approach to anything — especially to your health — can be very tempting, and may even feel motivational. But I’m telling you right now that it’s a dangerous approach that will only set you up for failure. Human beings are imperfect. It’s inevitable that you will eventually skip a workout or give in to temptation, and you’ll feel like a failure and want to give up entirely — i.e., trade the all for the nothing.

So, start thinking like a tortoise. Pace yourself. Allow yourself to have a slice of pizza or take a day off now and then; just don’t stray too far from the path that will lead you to your goals.

I wanted to work out in the afternoon on both Tuesday and Wednesday but sigh… we ended up going somewhere on Tuesday, so I couldn’t. I had a meeting at work for an hour and then more homework on Wednesday, so I couldn’t. At least I’m trying to wake up little early and get something done in the “morning.”

So.. I’m trying. My menu is going okay but with what I have available at home, it’s not really doable to stay on the “healthy plan.” I have no lettuce, no fruits,…really no food other than frozen stuff. We really need to go grocery shopping tomorrow or Friday. I got a feeling that this grocery bill will be quite..high. Sigh.

The Law of the Garbage Truck

How often do you let other people’s nonsense change your mood? Do you let a bad driver, rude waiter, curt boss, or an insensitive employee ruin your day? Unless you’re the Terminator, you’re probably set back on your heels. However, the mark of your success is how quickly you can refocus on what’s important in your life.

Sixteen years ago I learned this lesson. And I learned it in the back of a New York City taxi cab. Here’s what happened.

I hopped in a taxi, and we took off for Grand Central Station. We were driving in the right lane when all of a sudden, a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, the car skidded, the tires squealed, and at the very last moment our car stopped just one inch from the other car’s back-end.

I couldn’t believe it. But then I couldn’t believe what happened next. The driver of the other car, the guy who almost caused a big accident, whipped his head around and he started yelling bad words at us. How do I know? Ask any New Yorker, some words in New York come with a special face. And he even threw in a one finger salute! I couldn’t believe it!

But then here’s what really blew me away. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was friendly. So, I said, “Why did you just do that!? This guy could have killed us!” And this is when my taxi driver told me what I now call, “The Law of the Garbage Truck™.” He said:

Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they look for a place to dump it. And if you let them, they’ll dump it on you.

So when someone wants to dump on you, don’t take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Believe me. You’ll be happier.

So I started thinking, how often do I let Garbage Trucks run right over me? And how often do I take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the street? It was then that I said, “I don’t want their garbage and I’m not going to spread it anymore.”

I began to see Garbage Trucks. Like in the movie “The Sixth Sense,” the little boy said, “I see Dead People.” Well now “I see Garbage Trucks.” I see the load they’re carrying. I see them coming to dump it. And like my taxi driver, I don’t take it personally; I just smile, wave, wish them well, and I move on.

One of my favorite football players of all time was Walter Payton. Every day on the football field, after being tackled, he would jump up as quickly as he hit the ground. He never dwelled on a hit. Payton was ready to make the next play his best. Over the years the best players from around the world in every sport have played this way: Tiger Woods, Nadia Comaneci, Muhammad Ali, Bjorn Borg, Chris Evert, Michael Jordan, Jackie Robinson, and Pele are just some of those players. And the most inspiring leaders have lived this way: Nelson Mandela, Mother Theresa, Ghandi, and Martin Luther King.

See, Roy Baumeister, a psychology researcher from the University of Florida, found in his extensive research that you remember bad things more often than good things in your life. You store the bad memories more easily, and you recall them more frequently.

So the odds are against you when a Garbage Truck comes your way. But when you follow The Law of the Garbage Truck™, you take back control of your life. You make room for the good by letting go of the bad.

The best leaders know that they have to be ready for their next meeting. The best sales people know that they have to be ready for their next client. And the best parents know that they have to be ready to welcome their children home from school with hugs and kisses, no matter how many garbage trucks they might have faced that day. All of us know that we have to be fully present, and at our best for the people we care about.

The bottom line is that successful people do not let Garbage Trucks take over their life.

What about you? What would happen in your life, starting today, if you let more garbage trucks pass you by?

Here’s my bet: You’ll be happier.

I got an email letting me know that I had a comment in one of my post. So i checked and delitaagain asked where I went. I’m still here. Somewhere.

My school started 3 weeks ago. It took my workout time..since I work out while my DD sleeps and now, I do homework and by the time I’m done with it, my DD wakes up…and she does not let me work out really. And I feel bad having her play by herself while working out. So as my workout sessions and time decreased, my food habit started becoming quite bad. I haven’t been really watching what I eat, my fruit and veggie intake hit the bottom…

And then I missed the deadline for weigh-in for TBL challenge on 3FC because of my internet. I thought to myself THAT IS IT! Forget this! I even told my BF that I’m not watching what I eat anymore and he goes, yeah right, since when? I said since today! I told him about the challenge. He said you are not giving up. NO. Then I thought to myself… Yeah, the challenge really worked for me and I know it would have helped me a lot. But in the end, it’s me who needs to do it, so I can do it myself. I still have other ladies I can talk to. It’s not end of the world and I really need to jump back on the wagon.

So starting tomorrow, or should I say today…since it’s after midnight, I’m back to “being obsessed with workout” again. Everyday, I will do my workout before I sit in front of computer to do homework. I will plan food again. I will be healthy again. I just need to get back to my habit of working out again. And get off my lazy butt. I remember when I used to feel really yucky just because I didn’t get to work out one day. Not anymore. It kinda bothers me but not like that. I need to get back to where I felt yucky if I didn’t work out.

I have 26 days left till I leave to visit Korea. In 4 years and 5 months. Hopefully I will be well into the 160’s by then. Sigh.
