I have never been especially overweight. I have never been especially underweight. But I have never in my life known what it’s like to be in really good shape.

From 2001 to late 2007 I attacked my body with fasts, binges, purges, and diet pills. Six long, ridiculous years — during which I neither gained nor lost weight.

The turning point was in November ‘07, when herbal diuretics landed me in the hospital with severe dehydration, intestinal bleeding and gut-wrenching pain. I spent the night on a saline-morphine drip while my boyfriend held my hand and watched my semi-sunken cheeks round out again.

The goal has changed.

Of all the people in the world, I am the one person I should be able to trust limitlessly to take care of me. From now on I’m taking care of my body. And that means not only stopping abusing it, but genuinely caring for it — and that means getting into shape.

In other, OTHER words… I’ve got to spend the rest of my life in this body; I might as well make it a sweet ride. ;)
