Anyway…….
Hot and humid. I swore I wouldn’t complain about Va. summers after the 3 years spent in South Carolina but we’re in the dog days and it’s wearing…..so humid, it’s juicy.
Tomorrow is orchestra camp concert; then that’s done. Cross country practice will start up in earnest soon—-speaking of which, A. had the foot MRI on Monday and we get to see the ortho this Friday. Will tell all when I know, suffice to say I’m NOT letting myself get upset over the medical gobbledygook. At riding lesson tonight, the instructor took me aside and advised me to contact what sounds like a pretty expensive show barn so A. can “advance and work on what her goals are”. HUH???? GOD, this kid talks a good story!!!! I CAN’T believe she’s beyond this instructor already; it’s only been maybe three months and a week of camp with her. What in the world is A. telling her???? (Probably that she wants to train to ride in the Olympics!!) I see money flyng out the window on this one—-I KNEW this horse stuff would be a slippery slope!!!!!!! Hmmmmmmm.
Slept out one night—2 person tent, on the ground—practice: we are thinking of doing a short camping trip. Surprised myself by sleeping really well; need to do it a couple more times in the yard to make sure the good rest wasn’t a fluke.
Picked my first ripe big tomato; have had lots of little ones but this is the first Better Boy. The Park’s Whopper is about a foot taller than me and getting wrapped by the moon flower vine.
Anyone looking for a great book: The Book Thief It’s just staying with me; crosses my mind every day yet….unforgettable!!!! Read it; you won’t be sorry!!!!! Another goodie: The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls; True story and excellent.
Up a pound today—had to be water, pizza last night and my lips felt puffy this am.
Phone still unreliable; ATT worker here again, says we need new line dug; we’re jury rigged for now but it’s working pretty well but who knows for how long.
Ready for my hot milk and bed. G’nite chickadees!

Hmmm. So the equestrian has lofty goals, does she? Well, there’s nothing wrong with that, and if she can make it, why not? A camping trip sounds fun - probably more work than I’d be willing to do, though. I’ve gotten pretty lazy in my dotage, here. I DO like the idea of waking up to birdsong and wind in the willows-kind of thing. Earthiness. Earthiness is good. Reacquainting yourself with nature up close and personal is rejuvenating. I know it is. I’m half-way convinced that DH and I ought to go ahead and give it a shot. We’ll see. I need to get acclimated to wearing these glasses, first. Every step I take, it feels like I’m stepping down into an abyss. Yikes!
Please endeavor to remain internet-connected. We DO miss you horribly when you’re out of touch, you know.
Hugs,
Z

I love camping. Used to go every weekend when I was still living in Canada. have not been now for over 10 years.
DH and I went hiking in Kokee last weekend and you can camp there, so we are now going to do the tent buying etc. I can hardly wait.

I give you credit for sleeping in a tent without being handcuffed or tied down… I wouldn’t do it under any other circumstances!
My idea of “camping” is a luxury cabin with air conditioning, a big-screen TV and a full kitchen!!! But I give kudos to those who actually like sleeping in the great outdoors!

Girls & Horses= perfect match. Tends to keep boys out of the picture for a while.
My DH would like horses because “They would look so pretty out in the field”. He has no idea how much work they are. I would go along with it–I have visions of us riding together– but I wonder if I’m too old to throw a leg over ‘em anymore. (The horse, not my husband.)

The camping sounds so good. I would even love to sleep in the yard sometimes. My dad sometimes used to sleep in our garden during summer. Just a folding bed, nothing fancy. But sometimes there used to be a sweet wind and that garden was full of white tropical flowers with awesome scent. I wasn’t allowed to do that.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for the movie suggestions. Also taking down the book recos.
So good to hear that A is doing so well with horses. She is a real acheiver.
Lots of love,
iniya
