house guests
My dh is NOT an animal person; allergic to cats, barely tolerates (although I know he REALLY loves her) the dog. No snakes, lizards, rodents….no, no no. So when A.’s friend C. called needing emergency sitting for her chinchillas we said yes (after making sure A. reminded her we have a hound) and I told her to let me tell dad. I told him we were having 4 house guests and he was so relieved it wasn’t people that he forgot to be too upset. They (2 adults and their 2 babies) are in a spare bedroom/storage room. The door is closed and we put a baby gate in the doorway just in case. At 14, I’m not sure how much Betsy the basenji would care but she does still chase squirrels; never catches them but…… Anyway they are the cutest things!!!! In a double decker cage, set in a large frig. box as the kids can squeeze out the cage. They have a wheel and run like hamsters on it. Also take “dust baths” in a little bin. The babies are still nursing. We have them till Thursday. I’m just glad she didn’t need us to take her piranha; I find him most unattractive.
Made it to gym today—3.15 mi. on tm, ladies lite aerobics, a little achey, not bad at all.
Food—good Need to get on the scale again. I lost 4 in May, 1 in June, then had gained 2 back the last time I hopped on. SO…..of course my way of dealing with this is to not get weighed!!!!!! STUPID, STUPID, STUPID!!!!!
Saw Rachel a few hrs. early evening. A. had a good session with her. On Wednesday, during A.’s lesson, a beautiful fox ran right thru the training ring. I was surprised Rachel didn’t react. Have seen this fellow out there several times but never so close.
Off to check on the “house guests”, then bed. G’nite, chickadees.

Oh, how cute those chinchillas must be! When we were up in the White Mountains a few weeks back, a fellow had a little brood of flying squirrels thst he was feeding with an eye dropper as the mother had been killed. Sweet little things - eyes weren’t even open yet. I find pretty much any kind of babies irresistible, of course. Piranhas, I think, might be an exception.
You are SO not stupid! I don’t get weighed (or weigh myself) if I know it isn’t going to make me happy. There are enough things in the world to be depressed about (the cost of gas, food, the war in Iraq, the fact that Bush is STILL president…guess I don’t have to go on) that I’ve made up my mind that while I might be passingly irritated by not being a naturally skinny person, I’m not going to let it make me feel bad about myself (any more than I can help, that is.) Ms. Close, you are a wonder! You are a true jewel who shines strong and pure. You are one of the truly evolved ones, for pity sake! Don’t you dare ever think of yourself as stupid in ANY context! Hey. Think of not weighing yourself as an indication of admirable restraint! Self control! (Doncha just want to hop on that dang thing when you see it sitting there in the corner, minding it’s own business…?) See? There are many perspectives to an issue. One (wo)man’s stupid is another (wo)man’s superb mental conditioning!
Have a great weekend!

A water slide! What fun! I haven’t done one in a while. The nice thing about climbing up those things is that there’s always such a line that you get to take the four stories of steps sloooowly!
We have a nice water park here at Kentucky Kingdom but they hire all the teenagers for summer jobs. There’s no way I’m going to encounter a bunch of my students in a bathing suit while I’m fifty pounds overweight! God, I have to face these kids in the fall and command respect from them!
I’m so envious of the homegrown tomatoes! I decided not to try this summer. Last year I ran myself ragged and begged them to give me some tomatoes in spite of the dense shade but I only got about two or three on each plant.
Yes, I’m going to blog throughout vacation as much as I can. Are you going out west with us?

I’m with ella, baby creatures make my heart melt. I swing between weighing myself every day and ignoring the scale altogether when I know I won’t like the numbers. You’re definitely NOT stupid! I’ve recently learned that the last bit of weight we want to try and lose is usually very hard. I have a hundred years before I get to that point, and I think you do fabulously!

PS - I was NOT referring to boredom when I said thinking about workout routines makes me want a nap! I was thinking physical exertion/ exhaustion!!!!!! And in reference to myself, sheer laziness! I am INSPIRED by your exercise routines - just not inspired sufficiently, more’s the pity, to try doing it for myself. Keep up the good work, Ms. Close - it makes me happy to think of how fit you are even if I’m a puddle of slightly mobile pudding….LOL!
More hugs,
Z

The chinchillas sound so cute. I do not want to know what the pirhana eats!
Good for you, getting to the gym. I reckon the 50-somethings of today are a force to be reckoned with. Coz 50 is the new 30 and we’re getting out there and doing stuff that’s fun and we don’t have to worry so much about getting the kids off to school any more. Yeah, it’s our turn.
