finally Friday
L-O-N-G week…….A. had lots of stuff to finish up for school; late, late nights for her, plus the orchestra concert and other usual activities. Next week is just a couple exams she has to take; exempt from most. I still wish she hadn’t done IB—high school just shouldn’t be this hard or insane……or expensive, I just wrote another check for 40.00 for some review book for next year and the awards banquet for orchestra (this Sun.) costs 52.00 for both of us. She got the “most improved” award for the soccer team at that dinner. AND cross country practice for fall starts one week after school ends. The summer work is shaping up as endless, including a reading list of 33 books for English alone. Hours and hours of required volunteer work. VACATION?????? What vacation?
Went out to see Rachel tonight for the first time in over a week; poor horse, only to find her gait off. Don’t know if she pulled something, turned an ankle, or maybe it’s from the farriers work. Didn’t ride; told the stable owner who said she wasn’t like that when they turned her out a couple hrs. earlier. Same thing we were told when we found the eye problem. Emailed her owner too.
Been hot but we’ve been somewhat saved by a pretty nice cooling sea breeze—west of here they had mid-90’s, we got up to 88 yesterday. They’re talking triple digits for the week-end though. We have a race tomorrow evening; it’s close to the water so maybe it won’t be too bad.
My neighbor had her first ripe tomato this week and I have one starting to change color, should have it by mid-week.
Gym today: 2.88 mi. on tm w/incline, ladies light aerobics—tired, A’s late nights are catching up to me too.
Food: Bfsk:McDonalds bacon, egg, cheese biscuit, decaf coffee w/creamer………snack: banana, 1/2 Wasa cracker………….snack: 2 jalapeno stuffed olives, f.f. cottage cheese, thin sliced deli turkey… dinner: pulled pork bar-b-que (ate about 2/3 of the serving), 2 small hushpuppies w/butter, baked beans, cole slaw……..(kept the snacks light cause I knew I’d be having this for dinner)
G’nite, chickadees.

Hmmmm. I don’t like the sound of that stable owner. Of course, I’m not crazy about people who buy horses and then board them and pay other people to look after and exercise them, either. I mean, I’m glad there are people like A and yourself in the world who DO look after these animals responsibly, but I still feel that people who don’t have the time or the inclination to care for their animals shouldn’t own them. Just one more affectation of those with more money than brains, from my perspective. Just a little of that Yankee “don’t hold nothin’ back” commentary from an old fart who grows older and fartier from one day to the next. Of course I grew up with horses - not show animals, by any means; just horses that were like family members - and I can remember my father whupping my butt more than once for not doing something I should have in the barn for those horses, or not cooling one down sufficiently because I was too anxious to get to somewhere else and be doing something else. Ahhh. Maybe this is what senility is: being opinionated as hell about things that shouldn’t concern you, eh? ANYWAY, get yourself a little rest, Ms. Close - you are working on one heck of a schedule these days. And keeping up the exercise routine! You’re my hero! I’m such a lazy thing.
Hugs,
Z

I know what you mean. My son-in-law teaches/coaches at a school in the next county. They finished up with graduation Friday and yet he has to be at school Monday morning to start his coaching of the football players. It is already in the triple digits here so I know the poor boys on the football team are going to have a rough summer practice.
I hate summer. I wish we had 2 seasons…spring and fall!!!!!!!!
Try to keep cool!!!!

First, congrats on the weight loss this week! Your workout schedule is really inspiring me to get up early & get my workout in before the day starts. Think I’ll try that tomorrow!
Hope Rachel is okay! What’s going on at that stable?
I don’t have children, but my nephew moves from a never-ending cycle of sports and after-school events to which he’s added guitar lessons…& he hits the books the minute he comes home in the afternoon & sometimes doesn’t finish for hours.
I don’t remember school being this much work when I was a kid. I wasn’t an A student or I guess I could also say, “I wasn’t a student like A,” but I don’t think the high-achievers I knew had to work as hard as the kids do these days.
I’ll second Ruby by closing with a wish that you get some lazy days together this summer.

Isn’t it funny how in all the parenting books they never mention “oh, by the way, you will have your hand in your pocket pretty much constantly once they hit about the age of eight?
Is there a swimming pool for horses where you agist? Maybe that would help.
