strawberry fields forever
Well, maybe not forever, but today for sure. Went picking, dragged dh along (he’s off today and tomorrow). For someone who went along grumpy and out of sorts it sure was hard to convince him we had enough and could leave. Gave a few pounds to my neighbor. Have eaten some; will freeze what’s left after tomorrow. YUM!!! I didn’t get picking last year and made up my mind that I wasn’t about to miss out 2 yrs. in a row.
While I was down country, I stopped to see Rachel–we went for A.’s lesson last night and she appeared to have something wrong with one eye when we went out to bring her in. Vet was called and she has a small ulcerated area, medicated now and looking a lot better, poor gal.
I’m tired; between the picking and all the weeding and planting I did tonight I think I’ll be sore tomorrow. Gym tomorrow so we’ll see how it goes.
Food has been good; well, pretty good….I did have one piece of chocolate cake at a lunch buffet but I didn’t overeat.
The cello came home Tuesday and it’s wierd to hear such beginning sounds after being used to the violin.
Ran into another parent from the kids old running team from the club. His son, who was a doll, graduated last year. Here I thought he was perfectly happy doing car mechanic stuff for a car dealership and it turns out he’s gone and joined the marines; in boot camp now. Impossible to imagine. I think I was expected to be happy and enthusiastic. I think I blew it.
G’nite, chickadees.

See? You can have ONE piece of chocolate cake and feel satisfied. With me, once I put that first bite in my mouth, I’m not happy until I’ve stuffed myself completely with the stuff. I’ve eaten a little off-plan, so to speak, while DS has been home visiting. He leaves tonight, and while I absolutely hate seeing him go, I’m actually looking forward to getting back to my healthier eating. I can’t say that I’ve splurged badly - just mostly bits and such of stuff I haven’t been eating until he got home. But, I will be right back on track tomorrow, and feeling better for it. Strawberries! Better still - fresh-picked strawberries! One of my favorite foods on earth - and a favorite memory, as well, because friends of my parents had a strawberry farm, and I remember toddling along those rows at a very young age, popping berries into my mouth and getting sticky and delightfully sodden with strawberry juice.
Hugs,
Z

Oooh, I’d love to try strawberry picking. Wonder if there’s anything like that around here? So nice of you to call the vet for Rachel - she’s not A.’s horse or yours, but you care enough to do such a thing.
Good for you for having that piece of chocolate cake, sounds yummy, and you’re pretty good about your eating, so the fact that you had this means you’re not obsessing (not that you ever did, as far as I can tell).
I am excited for you, for A. about the cello. I wish I could hear those beginning sounds too. Jess has pulled out the old flute and clarinet and was playing some of her old music. I love hearing that.

I’m having fresh strawberries for breakfast! These are not toted home from the fields but have been rescued from the nearest grocery. This is probably the only time of year when the ones at the grocery are not only edible but actually good!
Thanks for sharing about your mother. It helps to vent. I went through all the lessons (piano), boy scouts, homework, laundry, etc. and raised my boys. Finally…reward! Clean house, freedom to take last minute trips with DH, not having to cook dinner, etc. It’s difficult when you start all over with grandkids. Love em to pieces! That’s why I feel a bit guilty to complain at all because they’re wonderful boys who work so hard and I don’t ever want them to feel like they’re a problem.

Darn it! That’s the second time today I regretted not getting strawberries when I went shopping. First time was in line as all my food was being rung up, the woman behind me put two boxes of the lovely things on the counter & they looked like jewels.
I guess I should go out tomorrow & pick some up cause now I’m going to crave them! Of course, I won’t be working for them the way you did.

It’s hard to be enthusiastic when you hear a kid you know has joined the marines, with this war going on. I just wish they would get it over with and bring our boys & girls home.
Strawberry picking is awesome! I loved doing that as a child!

Strawberry season is just the best, isn’t it! I love to dry strawbs, as well, putting them in my food dehydrator. The whole house smells of sweet, luscious strawberries and they are such a treat.

Wow, I Hope that kid is ok in the marines. How scary for his parents.
I am sure the cello cannot sound as bad as you make it seem. True it is not the violin, but I am sure all of A’s violin experience will transfer well- to this rather Large vioin!
How is Rachel doing? How does A have time for all of this activity? I get tired reading it!
Hope all is well

I am afraid I would have blown it too. But as parents, they have to be optimistic and put the blinders on.
Too funny about dh… at least he had fun once he was there. I can’t wait for strawberries to come in season here.
Hope your horse is doing better.
