sideways rain and 50 degrees
Yep, still very windy. Eighteen tornados south of here yesterday evening when the storms went through; believe me this is NOT our usual spring. Had to smile a bit at the basement mentions; on the coast; not a basement to be had (sea level, you know)–we really are sitting ducks, best we can do is a first floor interior closet with pillows and such for protection if the worst happens and just hope it doesn’t. Oh, and June starts hurricane season–more joy.
On to more pleasant things; tomorrow is supposed to be sunny! Gym today: 2.25 mi. on the tm then ladies lite aerobics. We had our monthly lunch today; a place called Changs-had hot and sour soup and almond/cashew chicken (lots of cashews, couldn’t find any almonds). Very good, brought a lot home. Other than that; Grapenuts Flakes for bfsk. and a bowl of ham and bean soup for dinner.
As much as I complain about my daughter’s school being in a bad center city area, I should set the record straight about the wonderful kids who go there. It is super multicultural; NATO Headquarters is local and we have most of their kids at the school. Among my daughter’s best friends are a Chinese girl who immigrated with her family at age 4, an adopted Chekoslovakian girl, and a boy from South America who is a very gifted violinist. I think the exposure to different cultures alone makes it a priceless experience. As much as I was against the transfer, I gotta say having all these kids from such diverse backgrounds is wonderful.
I need to go pick strawberries one day this week; won’t be tomorrow unless I wear waders!
G’nite chickadees, sleep tight!

I love the sound of this school! I have a daughter adopted from Korea and a son adopted from Ethiopia. My son is not in school yet, but my daughter migrates towards the ONE asian girl who was in her class last year. I love our school, but it is not very multicultural.

Stay safe. How horrid those storms are. I hate hurricane season, we have not been hit with a big one since 1992, so we are due.

I’m going to have to see if the Y has a ladies lite aerobics class. I’m not a fan of aerobics in general, but that word “lite” is pretty appealing.
Ah yes, vivid childhood memories of being pushed into an overfull closet under the stairs, wedged between golf clubs and the dog while mom & dad stood in the cove with the neighbors waiting looking to see if they could spot a funnel cloud.
Hope you don’t have to spend any time in your closet this season!
Stay safe!

OMG… your weather would make me a nervous wreck! I’ll settle for our occassional earth quake and wind storm. I hope all passes through uneventfully! I love the sound of your dd school. We live in a very homogenized district. Very few cultural differences and it seems when there is some diversity white insecurity raises it’s ugly head.
I have not ridden the TB yet, I will do that on Wed. I guess she is a little bit insecure, so the owner wanted to make sure I really knew how to ride. I found her through a craigslist ad, so she had lots of people who “claimed” they knew how to ride hoping to get free access to riding lessons and a horse. But she seemed pleased.
If your daughter really is interested in dressage she should check out these links. They have a wealth of info broken down into little digestible pieces. I printed them out and took them to the barn, so I could work on different things. I take lessons too… but sometimes these web sites bring it all together and are more helpful.

Wow, take care of yourself, A, and the horse, during this weather. (Can you fit a horse into the closet?!). Cello, eh? Well, not the most ladylike instrument (perhaps I think that because at my high school the mean nasty girl played it), but on the other hand, it will always encourage her to keep trim thighs!! After all, you can’t get a cello between mine!
You are lucky you have a daughter who has such positive interests - as you know. Granted that never stops a Mom from worrying. So, how was your mother’s day? I am sure you earned a good one.
Take care of everyone, mother duck!

Hurricane season! That’s damn’ scary. As for fitting the horse in the closet, don’t joke, Shari. A friend of mine brought her horses indoors when there was a bushfire. The fire was years ago but there are still hoofprints in the front hall.

Stay safe dear lady! I didn’t realise about the no basements. I think C. was down your way today on a business trip. I phoned her and told her to watch the weather, and to get underground if there was a tornado warning - or, if in a car and unable to find a safe place, to get under and overpass. How’s that for being a neurotic worrying mom!
Good job on the eating.
Sounds like A. is receiving such a great education….

Oh, what a great school experience for A !!!!!! If only all kids could get such a global educational experience, maybe wars could finally come to an end! After all, who would want to fight against someone they went to school with? (Unless they were real jerks, you know?) Oh, just kidding….I couldn’t resist. Me and my warped sense of humor, doncha know? Omigosh, Ms. Close! Stay safe! Please! We can’t manage here without you!
Hugs,
Z
