A fresh page

I know I’ve been MIA a few days (especially with comments on other blogs). It’s been because of the insaneness of the holiday coupled with a resolve to just read and kick back during what down time there was to be had.  Current reading is “The Stone Angel” by Canadian author Margaret Laurence; I’m enjoying both the story and her writing style.  Don’t think I’ve ever read anything by her before.  She was born in Manitoba in 1926 and lived in Canada, Africa, and England; died in Ontario in 1987.  Interesting life.

I keep thinking back to my last entry about “fun” and pampering.  There’s something eating at me having to do with my own concept of fun vs. enjoyment that I’m trying to clear up for myself.  OK–here goes—this is just how it works in my mind, granted a scary place, sometimes.  I “enjoy” the fun stuff BUT the things I enjoy are not necessarily fun—I enjoy concerts to varing degrees but don’t necessarily find them “fun”.  To me “fun” is different from enjoying and enjoying may sometimes involve doing a thing that is “expected” or that I wouldn’t do if not for my daughter.  Not something I would do if only up to me. The movies were “fun” cause I never get to adult stuff and never alone.  “Fun” involves more of a sense of carefree delight and sometimes laughter—the bumper cars at Busch Gardens, for example.  There’s no “I should” or “I have to” or “I need to”; it’s PURE “I want to” with emphasis on I, not taking input from anyone else.  Probably something we all should be doing.  I resolve to look for and pick “fun” stuff in the coming year.  Pampering kind of goes hand in hand since it’s for you and you alone also.  I’m thinking about going for a massage to start the pampering, hmmmmm, of course finding time is a problem there; we’ll see.  BUT, I’m going to try.

Food has not been horrible, not great either.  Finished the year last evening at a very good local place with a wonderful Greek salad—can’t believe I just discovered these this year!!!!  Today a piece of spinach, onion, and green pepper quiche and a few piastacios (sp?) and a very little bit of Gen. Tso chicken.  Made Ruby’s meatballs the other day and they are calling me now.

7 PM  Food update: 2 of the meatballs, 1/2 can clam chowder, 1 Milky Way Dark bar—-done for the day, I think except for my decaf tea w/skim

I wish a happy, healthy, and worry-free New Year to all us chickadees!!!!

Now you have me thinking about fun vs enjoyment. I find enjoyment in things but fun?? When was the last time I ever let lose and just belly laughed? Or played like a child because I could? That is fun. I read because I enjoy it, I watch movies because I enjoy them, but fun??
    Now I have to think………
    Happy New Year sweetie

Glad you’re thinking about fun. Me too. And your description of how you view enjoyment vs. fun is interesting, and I think I feel simliarly.

Yes, I agree with you on the fun vs enjoyment thing. I think we are so often running in so many directions and being let down and then there is this huge list of duties and responsibilities, it is so very easy to mix up enjoyment with fun.

I mean sometimes I so (pathetically?) grateful about something nice. Even enjoyments score high. But you got me thinking and yes we all need to do something we love, not something we are supposed to love.

Let us hope we wll will have some exclusive time for ourselves in this year.

    Lots of love,

    iniya
