Betsy B

This am I was with my neighbor walking my dog, Betsy the Basenji of previous posts, when she yelped, took off fast–as far as the leash would allow–and ended up in the gutter having a seizure which lasted about 2-3 min.  I sat on the curb, my neighbor sat in the street with her Husky at her side.  We petted, massaged, and talked softly to her for the duration of it and afterward.  At least 50 cars passed and not one person stopped!  Betsy seems OK now; I’ve spoken with her vet.  This is EXACTLY what happened with my last basenji; Sam started having seizures when he was about 10 (Betsy is 13).  I had pre-filled syringes of Valium from our vet that I would hit him with when I caught him in one—A. was only 3 but would come get me saying “doggy seizure, mommy”.  NOT good memories.  Not a good day, chickadees….

Hold your doggies and love them.

I’m so sorry to hear about your dog. I can’t believe nobody stopped to help you. My mom’s dog used to have seizures and it was awful. I’m sending you and your pup all my best, healthy wishes!!

I’m going to choose to believe that people thought you were taking a rest break, not that they were heartless meanies. Hugs and puppy kisses from me and Tia Bella (my chi).

I am so sorry :( My vet thinks one of my dogs is having partial seizures, but it only happens every couple of months. I would hate it if she were having total body seizures. Bless her heart!

I’m so sorry to hear that Betsy is having seizures. That’s very rough. I’m sending you both healing thoughts and a prayer. Sometimes when Shelby over exerts she gets a wobble in her legs, where she doesn’t seem to have control, and it scares me - and her. RubyJ
