I averaged 1311 calories per day from Sun, 1-20-08 thru Sat, 1-26-08. My ratio for Carbs 40%, Protein 33%, and Fat, 26%.  I have no idea if this is a good ratio to maintain or not.  Feedback welcome!!!Body fat %- 45%

    Sandy,
I don’t think there is a magical percentage so to speak. I believe if you eat balanced each and every day and do your best to keep it balanced that you will succeed. it looks like 1/3 of what you are eating is protein I would think thats a good amount. carbs are 40% I would think that carb ratios are a bit higher with everyone thats not on a low carb diet (Atkins etc) I also believe that each and every person will be different in their needs. as long as you are losing its working!

My eDiets program recommends 20-30% fat (less than 10% of that saturated fat), 50-60% carbs (mostly complex carbs from whole grains, fruit and veggies) and 20-25% protein.

I’ve never thought about it really. I don’t know if I could keep up with all of that. It’s hard to keep up with just the calories, so I can’t imagine trying to keep up with how many carbs and protein I’m getting…
I know fiber is important. With the Weight Watchers program (which I am not doing), the members can figure out how many points something is worth by using some formula with calories, fat, and protein (I think). If something is higher in fiber, it will be less points, because the calories that come from the fiber is not digested. So, maybe if you tried to get some of your things that are higher in carbs (such as breads, rice, veggies, etc.) that are also have more fiber, then you may not “absorb” as many calories. Does that even make sense?? I can’t really explain it too well I guess, but I guess the main point is that if you try to get extra fiber in the things that also have high carbs or calories, then it will be better. Calories is a measure of energy. Calories come from fat, carbs, protein, fiber, etc. The calories that come from the fiber are not absorbed, and so really you aren’t really “getting” them. That’s how I understand it at least, and I’m not even positive that I’m right about that. I am definitely no expert, so I probably shouldn’t even be offering my advice! I just thought I’d let you in on what I’ve heard…
I ramble too much. I’m going to stop now. ;)

Oh, I just realized that I wrote, “…the members can figure out how many points something is worth by using some formula with calories, fat, and protein …” I didn’t mean to write “protein” in there. I meant to write “fiber.” Ugh. So confusing. Sorry!!!!! :)

You’re doing great - those percentages are really healthy. Are you feeling energetic and happy or deprived? If you are struggling you might want to move it around a bit, but it’s a healthy diet and % breakdown, so if you feel well, stick with it!
