If You Don’t Move, You Get Fat
Body confidence, Exercise, General February 4th, 2008I saw this ad a while back in an art magazine and ripped it out. I came across it today while cleaning some papers…

This is an ad from a campaign by the German Olympic Committee, and I had a hard time finding the image I wanted so there might be a problem with the copyright… So for the record, I think the campaign is fabulous and I’m not trying to steal anyone’s thunder, just get it out to more people…
Pretty striking, isn’t it?

Michaelangelo’s David is my favorite work of art…
But, it’s so true. If more of us really thought about how we can incorporate “Life As Gym” , gyms would start going out of business. I just *love* free resources !

Yikes!

Actually, I thought the classic David needed more muscle tone by today’s standards. This modern David is just nasty, though. If you think about it, he can glance down and he wouldn’t even see his wee wee over the hill that is his stomach. Pretty gross, thanks for sharing…

That is so true you have to move the muscles to move the scale downward. My mind knows this very well it is just so hard to get my legs to agree with it!!!

Hmmm. Not quite how it was intended, no?

Well that’s….interesting. It is really quite striking. Helps remind me that maybe it wouldn’t be the end of the world to get off my butt and take a walk every now and then. hahah, thank you!

That’s great motivation. I think I’m going to set that picture as my desktop now.

I love it! It’s a very poignant message!

Thats the way to get the message across

Wow. That’s scary. And motivating. If I don’t continue to make exercise a part of my life, I’ll have a giant Buddha belly like that too

I have never responded well to this kind of “scare tactic” marketing.
First let me say that I am a firm believer in the benefits of exercise and good health. However, this ad implies that the possibility of becoming fat is so horrible that it will motivate people to exercise.
Perhaps some (or many) will disagree with me, but I think there are far worse fates than getting fat, and there are far greater motivators than vanity.
Just another point of view to consider….
