Today’s Totals - Nov 12th, 2008

So, I had just about the perfect day off. I probably should have done a little more work on school stuff but I blew it off. I even tried a nap in the afternoon, although I never got quite off to sleep. Breakfast was delayed this morning as we were out of eggs, egg whites, etc. The only good thing is that I didn’t have to make the Costco run.  :)

I notice that I’ve been a little heavy on the carbs the last couple of days. I wasn’t specifically aiming for any macro level. In the end I’m getting the same level of protein, just filling the extra calories with carbs.

Food for the day:

Total: 2505 (26% fat, 47% carbs, 26% protein)

AM Snack: chocolate zucchini cake, fruit salad (206)
Breakfast: egg/egg white omelet with cheese, clementines (329)
Lunch: meat sauce, whole wheat pasta, cheese, apple (698)
PM Snack: hummus, carrots, flatbread, ruffles chips (178)
Dinner: spicy meatloaf with roasted potatoes and onions, bean/carrot blend, butter, salad w/dressing (633)
Late Snack: protein shake, fruit salad (306)

Other than some school work and some laundry today I did pretty much nothing today.  My mother says that I sound much better when coughing.  :)  I do feel slightly better, but I admit I could do with another day off.  Oh well, no rest for the wicked I suppose.  So I’m headed to bed soon.

Food for the day:

Total: 2513 (25% fat, 40% carbs, 32% protein, 3% alcohol)

Breakfast: scrambled eggs, salsa, zucchini bread, jam, clementines (557)
AM Snack: chocolate zucchini bread (156)
Lunch: meat sauce, whole wheat pasta, parmesan cheese, apple (644)
PM Snack: hummus, carrots (178)
Dinner: sirloin steak, corn, butter, salad w/dressing (578)
Late Snack: protein shake, fruit salad, hot toddy (400)

Today’s Totals - Nov 7th, 2008

I would have said I was feeling better, but I see now that it was just the alcohol, soda water, and such that was likely just coating my throat. Anyway, I managed to make a decent choice for dinner (a chicken wrap with the ranch dressing swapped out for salsa, and dressing on the side for the salad… instead of the fries). Possibly a little less alcohol might have been a better choice, but what the hell. :D With not drinking at the college I could stick to Jack Daniels on the rocks. A far better caloric choice than beer.

We were all a little pissed off with our test marks from Wednesday’s test. I dropped from 80% (on the first) to 76%, and I really did feel, as others did, that I had a better handle on the content for this test. I’m not sure from a preparation standpoint what I could have done better. There were a few people sitting mid-70s that didn’t pass (60% is a pass). Although, having said that my overall standing is lower, so not everyone did poorly. I’d probably be a little less disappointed if it was lower for everyone.

The positive news is that I’m sitting 58/60 with a better mark on the Tuesday test. And the teacher (who with his wife) joined us tonight let it slip (after seeing who was there) that he would give us the option to skip the final and take the mark we currently have. He said he would discuss it closer to the time, and I have to confirm that this will include the attendance bonus (which I’ve factored in there). ie. at 53/60 I might write the exam and take my chances (since that would automatically add whatever I get out of 40 + 5).

I think I’m going to call it a night, so I’ll just add my food now (although I should go get my snack.

Food for the day:

Total: 2014 (18% fat, 30% carbs, 31% protein, 19% alcohol)

Breakfast: protein shake with oatmeal and frozen cherries (343)
AM Snack: none (0)
Lunch: whole wheat tortillas, mustard, smoked turkey (336)
PM Snack: chocolate zucchini cake, apple (183)
Dinner: jack daniels(lots), chicken wrap, salad w/dressing (904)
Late Snack: protein shake, fruit salad (231)

I’m sitting here with my final ‘eats’ of the day.  A hot toddy with lemon, honey and … whisky.  I have definitely given in to feeling crappy, and I’m planning on crawling beneath the sheets within the next 20 mins.  I’ll judge how I feel tomorrow afternoon to decide on whether I go out with the boys or not.  I probably will because we’re actually going off campus, something we usually don’t do.  I don’t have to stay late, and I don’t have to drink much… although at least I can drink bourbon (my preference when out).  Hey, it has fewer calories than beer.  :)

I kept hoping that our Manufacturing Processes test results would be up today (they were up within 24 hours the last time), but no luck.  I doubt the Manufacturing Management teacher or the Communications one will have their tests marked either, but you never know.  This weekend I need to catch up with math, study for a test in it on Tuesday (a little, not much) and probably do the review questions for processes as it will likely only be another week or so before the next test.

Somewhere in there I need to work in plenty of rest as well.

Food for the day:

Total: 2005 (23% fat, 38% carbs, 32% protein, 4% alcohol)

Breakfast: two fried eggs, honey oatmeal bread, clementines (463)
AM Snack: none (0)
Lunch: whole wheat tortillas, mustard, smoked turkey, apple (428)
PM Snack: chocolate zucchini cake, plums (203)
Dinner: stewed beef, potatoes, bean/carrot blend, butter, house salad w/dressing (557)
Late Snack: protein shake, hot toddy (353)

Today’s Totals - Nov 5th, 2008

I feel like a truck ran over me tonight.  I suspect it’s the after effect of three tests in two days.  Well, two tests and a quiz.  I’m so glad these two are over… now it’s math next week.  Sigh… and one more test in processing sometime in (likely) the next couple of weeks.  Oh well, soon it will be finals.  The only good thing about that is that the last final date possible is Dec. 13th.  This gives us a full four weeks before classes start next term.

So, off to bed I go.  The doctor’s office is doing a flu shot clinic so my mother and I will go in tomorrow before I head off to school.  I should do some cardio, but I think I’ll push it off until Saturday morning.  I’d do it tomorrow during my long break but my Metrology teacher picked exactly halfway in the middle of that time period to review my midterm (at my request).

Food for the day:

Total: 2294 (28% fat, 36% carbs, 33% protein)

Breakfast: two scrambled eggs, chocolate pecan bread, jam, clementines (444)
AM Snack: protein shake, sour cherries (267)
Lunch: baked chicken breast with tomato/wine sauce, cheese, bean/carrot blend, butter (481)
PM Snack: ruffles chips, chocolate zucchini bread, fruit salad (390)
Dinner: whole wheat tortillas, mustard, eye of round, apple (429)
Late Snack: whole wheat tortilla, cheese (284)

Today’s Totals - Nov 4th, 2008

So I didn’t do a HR monitor walk today, but I did go outside and wander around the campus (not very big), and the surrounding streets for about 30 mins. I’m not counting it though as a cardio day. :)

I’m done for the day, although I still have my meals to put together for tomorrow. I’m going to make time for lifting in the morning and have a ‘dinner’ for lunch. Then I’ll just take my lunch stuff to eat before the test, which starts at 7pm. I’ve already brought in the basics from the freezer, it’s just a case of plugging them in and working on the other items before I go to sleep.

Tonight’s test seems to have gone well, with there being less need to BS during it, so that’s a good sign. I likely did fairly well on the grammar test, but who knows. We have our groups assigned for the Communications project and, so far, I don’t hate any of my group members. I didn’t get stuck with the guy nobody wants in his group, although there may have been an implied threat to the teacher. No, not me!

I feel very unprepared for tomorrow’s test, however, I do think the content for it is less complex than the last test in this class (Manufacturing Processes). However, I really do want to improve my first mark (80%, although the top mark was 89%), so I’ll review the material again tomorrow.

I’m not entirely sure what order I ate my food in. I packed lunch, snack, dinner, but I think I shifted a few things around. I’m going to try relabeling it as I go here.  I was strong as others ate burgers, fries, wraps (probably the healthiest choice, a veggie one), and bacon/eggs/bread/chips.  That last one was probably the most tempting.

Food for the day:

Total: 1996 (27% fat, 39% carbs, 31% protein)

Breakfast: protein shake with oatmeal and frozen sour cherries (331)
AM Snack: blueberry bran snack cake (103)
Lunch: turkey spaetzle soup, honey oat bread, apple (437)
PM Snack: carrots, hummus, ruffles chips (268)
Dinner: whole wheat tortillas, mustard, smoked turkey, soy nuts, blueberry bran snack cake (573)
Late Snack: fruit salad, whole wheat tortilla, cheese (285)

Today’s Totals - Nov 3rd, 2008

Okay, I’ve completely given up today on time.  It’s 9:30 and although I got my Math assignment done, I’m not doing the homework.  She’s going to teach the 2nd half of the lecture tomorrow and that will result in more homework.  I won’t get it done tomorrow, I’m not sure about Wed (as have another test that evening) so on Thursday afternoon (break) and evening I’ll just have to catch up.

I’m also a little concerned about my test for tomorrow night so I’ve decided to drop the cardio that I was going to try tomorrow during school and the test.  The 90 mins (drive to / from + 60 mins) are likely better spent going over my notes again.

On the bright side I got all three drawings done today in AutoCad in under 2 hours (class is 3 hours long) and he’s already marked them - 100% on all three!  And the Metrology mid-term from last Wed. is marked and I got 80/91 (87.9%) but was only the second highest mark :( (although highest in my class).  I really should have been over 90%, as it’s an area I’m familiar with.  Oh well, can’t do much about it now.  I will try and review where I lost the marks sometime in the next week (as the final is somewhat cumulative).

Now… off to bed I go, as my alarm needs to be set for 5:45 am!

Food for the day:

Total: 2001 (28% fat, 33% carbs, 35% protein)

Breakfast: egg/egg white omelet with cheese, clementines (372)
AM Snack: none (0)
Lunch: whole wheat tortilla, eye of round, mustard, apple (429)
PM Snack: blueberry bran snack cake, soy nuts (340)
Dinner: szechwan beef with stir-fry veg, salad w/dressing (585)
Late Snack: fruit salad, protein shake (276)

Oops - almost forgot, I will have to go get my evening snack….

Today’s Totals - Nov 1st, 2008

Well, I did do some studying today, but probably not enough.  I took a quick trip to Vineland today to pick up some frozen cherries.  I ended up getting sour cherries as I think the vanilla whey tends to be a bit sweet.  I also bought some apples and a few plums on the way home.  I also spent some time in the afternoon playing with AutoCad so I should be okay on Monday… until he throws something else at us!  :)

So tomorrow I will try to study more and will do some kind of workout.  What I really want to do is play with the chin-up bar, but not at the end of my workout.  So I’ll likely just move things around (and maybe not do a complete workout), we’ll see.

Breakfast: two fried eggs, chocolate pecan bread, jam, clementines (349)
AM Snack: protein shake (135)

Today’s Totals - Oct 31st, 2008

Well, since I’m pretty much out of calories for the day, and I’m avoiding the open box of chips in the front foyer I think perhaps it’s time to head to my bed.  Lots of studying, homework, etc. for the weekend, and perhaps some gardening (weather dependent).

Food for the day:

Total: 2000 (13% fat, 38% carbs, 31% protein, 16% alcohol)  oh my!

Breakfast: protein shake with oatmeal and frozen berries (331)
AM Snack: none (0)

Lessons Learned…

So today’s lessons learned are:

- I cannot drink like I used to at my heaviest
- 2 pints of beer is more than I should ever have in a short period of time

For those that don’t know, the campus bar closes at 4pm on a Friday.  Yes, a silly thing, but there it is.  Our last class ends at 3:15/3:30 and we usually grab a quick one before going home.  Tonight I took a pint of Heinekin and didn’t object loudly enough at last call and had a second one put in front of me.  Usually I just take a bottle, so why a pint today I don’t know.  This wasn’t a problem until I stood up to leave (we were allowed to stay until about 4:30 because the bouncer likes us).  I realised that I’d had way too much in too short a period of time, especially on an empty stomach.  So I stuck around the college, had a cup of coffee before I headed home.

I used to be able to drink quite a bit without worrying about it.  Now I need to watch it a little more carefully.  As well, I went over my planned calorie allowance (with 1 or 2 bottles max) and I’ll have to cut my dinner back a bit to make up for it.  :(

Now I’m off to lay down until dinner (head still spinning a little)…
