Today’s Totals - Aug 5th, 2008

I’m so glad that my rest days are over. Not only do I miss the lifting, but I’m tired of the chores.  :)

This morning I was working in the garden and saw that my 6″ zucchini from a couple of days ago was now a 10″ zucchini. Yes, the crazy lady grabbed the yardstick from the garage because it looked bigger today. So just before noon I decided that I should pick it and that started off the baking spree from hell. I made:

- zucchini chocolate cake with protein powder and soy flour (37% protein!)
- zucchini bread (for my mother, but put a little soy flour in it anyway since I know I’ll end up eating most of it)

That would have been enough, except I thought I should bake some bread as well. I went to make the cracked wheat oatmeal bread…. not enough cracked wheat. This is where I should have just stopped. No, I decided to look for a new recipe to try. I found a honey oatmeal bread recipe (longer story but one of our neighbours is trying to get rid of 30lbs of honey) so I thought that would do. When I was putting it into the bread machine I really thought there was too much liquid. After the dough cycle it was way too wet. I should have tossed it, however, I have just enough knowledge to be dangerous.

I worked in a little more flour, but this was while the zucchini bread was in the oven, and almost ready. Sleeping Beauty (yes I called her that to her face later) was having a nap and I could have really used some help when the zucchini bread needed testing and my fingers were covered in sloppy wet dough. I did eventually get it to a decent consistency and the bread turned out fairly well. Even with the added cup of flour the calorie count is likely off from the stuff that never made it into the pans. It’s tasty enough, but I can’t decide if it’s worth trying to fix what’s wrong with it.

See, doing some exercise and a little light gardening would be much easier.

I also don’t even want to look in the crawlspace. We’ve had so much rain in the afternoon/evening that I’m sure there’s water in there. Maybe not much, but just enough to be a pain. The side I can see easily is okay so it’s not that bad. I think the thunder and lightening has passed though so it should be a quiet night. I’m so glad I spent time tidying up in the garden the past couple of days.

So I’ll be starting Stage 5 tomorrow. I just looked at it - 3 or 4 sets. I hate when there’s a range. I know I’ll be doing 4 sets but with the rest times I suspect it’s going to be a long workout. I think no matter what it’s going to be a short warm-up since there’s the bodyweight matrix at the end.

Food-wise it felt like a carb day even though the macros don’t support it. I had bread with breakfast, chocolate zucchini cake mid-morning, pizza at lunch, and both zucchini bread and honey oatmeal bread in the afternoon. Okay, small amounts of most… and the new zucchini cake is high in protein. Although I suspect it will be a nice easily carried snack when at school, I’m not sure there is enough fiber in it to be filling. There might be enough protein and fat though that it might not matter. I suppose only time will tell. In the meantime my mother asked for a second piece of it so I’ll let her eat it with her lunch.  :)
