Overall this was a crappy day. It started off well with me doing my walking outside. I can’t figure out why (since I was wearing the same shoes I always do) but I felt a slight rub on the one foot. Stupid me did not stop right away (hey I was almost finished) and now I have a blister on my left heel. It’s not broken, but this is not good. I put a large bandaid over it for the afternoon and it was clean and dry when I took it off, but I’m not sure how this will play out. Usually by the time I get a blister (and it’s been years) I’ve rubbed the heel raw. I do know that the best thing is to keep it clean and dry and protected against more rubbing. So tomorrow I will make sure it’s covered.

And that was the good part of the day!

After lunch it was time for the vet visit. Grabbed the easy to catch cat (Gus) and put him into the bathroom. He doesn’t mind much, in fact if you don’t leave something blocking the door he shuts himself in. The little, freakishly fast cat (Shadow), now he was a problem. This is a cat that eats anything and will follow you anytime you have food that he thinks he might like. He will knock the bigger cat away and take his food whenever possible.

So, not planning ahead, I grabbed a piece of turkey (which he ate more than his share of at lunch) and tried to lure him downstairs to where the cage was.

“No sorry, I’m sleeping. Just leave it on the floor I’ll get it later.”

Well, he didn’t say that, but that’s what he was thinking. He was up underneath the dining room table and I knew if I tried to grab him it wasn’t going to work. I should have brought the cage closer at this point. He finally decided to get up and at least lick the turkey. I figured he looked drowsy so I’d take a chance. I picked him up and started slowly down the stairs. About two steps into the journey he freaked out (neither of them like being carried, trust me, I’ve tried to get them used to it). A short struggle ensued and I eventually caved and let go. I’ve been scratched to bits onces before and it’s not fun. He did bite me once but that was (partly) my own fault. See, we used to take the old cats on a collar and leash. So, I quietly put the collar on, he went nuts, and afraid that he would hurt himself I tried to take it off. See, all my fault. :)

So, down the stairs he went, through the family room and up onto the bar. I got a little too close and he jumped down the back of the bar and tried to escape up the stairs. My mother thought it would be a good idea to block his escape… so into the crawlspace he went. At this point I gave up, canceled the appointment and let Gus out of the bathroom. Shadow spent the rest of the afternoon in the crawlspace, although once he smelled dinner cooking he managed to sneak back upstairs so he could get his share.

Oh yes, and after dinner, Gus locked himself in the bathroom just for old times sake. I’m quite serious about this. He’s stopped sleeping in the bathrooms since we made it impossible for him to lock himself in.

So that was pretty much my day. Since I was dressed in street clothes I figured I might as well do the shopping for the few things we needed for the party on Saturday. Tomorrow’s plan is to spend the day working in the yard (no lifting) and keep cool by going into the pool when I’m too hot. As well, I’m going to do something I don’t normally do. I’m going to eat for an exercise day without any planned exercise. I’m pretty sure I’ll make it up with the work (which includes some heavier tasks) but I will wear the heart rate monitor and keep an eye on how I’m doing. With another hot humid day I guess I’ll need the keep the energy levels constant.

On that note I think I’ll call it a night.

LoL. I used to have a cat that HATED being picked up and ESPECIALLY being put in a cage. Once we were moving and we had to leave him behind for a day because he scratched us up all so badly, after I had literally wrestled him into the cage and then one of my sons let him out again because he was making so much noise.

Amazing isn’t it? Our last two would let themselves be picked up and carried to the car. We used a collar and leash only to prevent sudden jumps if they saw another cat and/or dog at the vets.

We’re already planning strategies for next week…
