Today’s Totals - July 14th, 2008

So I restrained myself and only came one with 2×30-lb pails of sour cherries and 1×20-lb pail of sweet. The first pail of sour cherries is in the dehydrator and I canned up the sweet cherries tonight (in the sour cherry juice) into 26 pint jars. Now I’m trying to decide how many I’ll put through the sterilizer tonight. Seven are already out and another seven are in now. They only sterilize for 20 minutes but it will depend on how fast it comes back to the boil. I wasn’t paying attention the first time so we’ll see. I’ll do the rest of the sour cherries tomorrow in in quart jars in their own juice.

Oh yes, and we bought yellow plums and first of the season peaches (split pits) at my favourite fruit stand on the way. I was virtuous and did not buy the napoleon cherries (white cherries)… okay, I figured that we still had our own cherries, as well as apricots, so for today that was enough.  :P

Depending on how many I get I just might go back for more sour cherries. The idea is to (in the winter) make a fruit salad with 1 quart sour cherries, 1 pint sweet cherries, and then usually one can of peaches (purchased) and one can of pineapple (purchased) and a few dried apricots. It makes a pretty nice fruit salad and the only fruit canned in something other than juice is usually the peaches in a light syrup. The also sell clingstone peaches, so I might consider canning peaches when they’re ready. We’ll see.  :)

So I’m tired, and sore. I realised a little past the halfway mark tonight that I should have been wearing a pair of shoes. I’m sitting here and boy do my feet hurt. I suspect I won’t know how much until the morning. So I’m just adding in my food for the day and back to watching the sterilizer boil.

Food for the day:

Strength Training - July 14th, 2008

(Just a side note, that this morning’s weigh-in brought be down the extra 1.2 pounds to the same weight as the previous Sunday.)

I started with 15-mins walking outside and then did:

A: Front Squat/Push Press - 50t/8, 50t/8, 55t/8
B1: Step-up (12″) - 12e/8, 12e/8, 15e/8
B2: Dumbbell One-point Row - 22e/8, 22e/8, 25e/8
C1: Static Lunge, Rear Foot Elevated - 10e/8, 10e/8, 12e/8
C2: Push-up (full) - 8, 8, 8
D1: Plank - 60+60sec, 60+60sec, 60+30+30sec (all on 6″ step)
D2: Horizontal Wood Chop (on floor) - 32t/8, 32t/8, 35t/8

I followed with a few bodyweight step ups to bring the workout to 75 mins (just because I’m nuts). I thought about going back outside and walking until I hit 90 mins, but it just wasn’t going to happen.

HRM: 532 cals, Max: 164 (92%), Avg: 135 (76%)

Oh am I tired, but that’s a good thing. I really quite missed doing the lifts last week. I was quite looking forward to it. And of course I completely blew off the 2 to 3 sets and just planned on 3. I thought I might not make it through the third set of planks (the hardest for me). I’m surprised that I managed 60 secs on the step though. I should have probably tried the last set on the floor but knew I was just about toast.

Tired or not, I really enjoyed it (masochist). I found I am getting better with the single leg exercises. Last time I did them in Stage 2 I really felt like I wasn’t even coming close to decent form. Now, I’m marginally closer. :)

To show how nuts I am I’m now off to Niagara (Vineland actually) to buy somewhere in the neighbourhood of 100 lbs of cherries to can and dry them! Yes, that’s my plan for my rest day tomorrow. :o
