Strength Training - July 2nd, 2008
warmed up with a 10-min walk on the treadmill. Then I did:
A: Barbell Romanian Deadlift/Bent-over Row - 95t/6, 95t/6, 100t/6
B1: Partial Single-leg Squat - 6, 6, 6
B1(+): Squats - 12, 12, 12
B2: Wide-grip Lat Pulldown (Pullover) - 32e/6, 30e/6, 30e/6
C1: Back Extension (Good Mornings) - 60t/6, 60t/6, 65t/6
C2: YTWL - 7e/6, 7e/6, 7e/6
D1: Swiss Ball Crunch (Long-arm) - 6, 6, 6
D2: Prone Jackknife - 6, 6, 6
D3: Lateral Flexion (Hannah side 2) - 6, 6, 6
E: Prone Cobra - 90sec, 90sec, 90sec
And then I did the HIIT. Again I’ve cut down on some of the rest periods (in the D exercises I’m sure), so I was about 10 mins short. Today I didn’t feel I had it in me to keep going so I finished up with a total session of 80mins.
HRM: 556cals, Max: 178 (100%), Avg: 122 (69%)
My left wrist is still twinging with the higher weights. I hadn’t felt it before in the early exercises, but today it started with the first one. I suspect I’m not doing enough warm-up now that I’m hitting the higher weights. When I move on to the next stage I’ll make a point to do some moves before loading up the barbell. My problem is that I tend to get the barbell ready for the first lift so I’m going straight into the heavy lift. Probably a bad choice. I did back off on the pullovers because of that (had planned on going to 32 lbs again on the last set). Thought I could get the YTWLs higher but struggled with the 7lbs that I didn’t go up to the 10s as I was thinking of. Feels like a disappointing session, although the HIIT almost killed me.
We’re finished the first set of cherries I picked the other day so I went out to the back (with the food scale) and picked cherries from the tree for my mother for lunch, an for my later on. I think I’ve managed to keep the birds out (no peck marks) so now the plan is to just go out and pick each day for that day. It will maybe let some of them get to full ripeness before they’re gone. Still quite tasty though.

I am so inspired by you! Your workouts really impress me. Plus you are doing so fantastic on your weight loss! You keep up your wonderful work and keep strong! have wonderful night.

I’m sometimes surprised that I continue to manage them, but somehow I do. I suspect it’s because I really enjoy lifting weights. Far more than the cardio. I can see it as something I would continue for a long time.
I’m so jealous of those fresh cherries! I bought some at the grocery the other day and then threw them out. They were totally tasteless!
The only ones that taste good from the store are the ones from the Northwest (at this time of year). In the US this usually means Washington state (saw some in Costco today) and in Canada sometimes you’ll get BC cherries. The California ones just never measure up (to my tastes at least). I also suspect that the Costco ones (which I’ve bought other years) are good because they’ll pre-packaged, not loose in a store.
