Today’s Totals - June 2nd, 2008
I’m not really sure it qualified as a rest day, but that’s how I’m classifying it (from an organized exercise standpoint). I got sidetracked this morning with 4 hours worth of yard work that I really hadn’t planned on. However, when you’re paying someone by the hour, helping him means you pay less. And then I feel like I want to work just as hard as I can (like I have something to prove). With the best of intentions I don’t have the energy for my lifting today, so I’ve adjusted my calories and called it a rest day.
The sad thing is I’ve ended up making myself sick to my stomach, so I’ll be changing around what I eat yet again. I used to be really quite bad with migraines, but I’ve learned to deal with the warning signs. Usually some liquid advil in the early stages keeps it at bay. Today I ignored the warning signs and didn’t take it until about 90 mins ago. Usually 20 mins and I’m good to go. Tonight I spent about an hour feeling like I was going to throw up, so the sauce I’d made for the chicken will do for tomorrow.
I think my biggest problem today was not wanting to admit that I really can’t work 4 hours without stopping for food and/or water. There’s this stubborn part of me that wants to keep going no matter what. The fellow who was doing the work here was (I figured out later) chugging gatorade, and used to working outside all of the time. Even when I do 4 hours out in the garden there are breaks, and I’ll sit down and such. I pretty much went non-stop this morning (lunch ended up being about 2:30 when I realised I was going to fall over if I didn’t stop).
The only good thing is that the fence will now not fall into the neighbours yard (well, for at least for another 5 years maybe). The trees we took down in the fall have been cut into logs and stacked onto the woodpile. And the surprisingly large tree growing in the middle of the fence (thought it was something the guy behind us had planted in his yard) is now gone and chopped up as well.
I did find an empty water bottle on the doormat so I did come in at some point and grab some water. I think it was when I was bringing some of the smaller wood downstairs to store in the basement. I think I was just trying to prove that the fat chick didn’t need to rest. I’m not sure why since I wasn’t trying to impress this guy or anything. I would not have done this is working on my own. Ah well, the work is over. Tomorrow (if it’s not raining) I can start planting the empty bed (left empty on purpose until the work was done).
I also finished up my tomato/mushroom/wine sauce for the chicken (bagged up 3/4 of it into the freezer). Managed to freeze and bag the 6 remaining chicken breasts (leaving 2 for tomorrow). Also made a turkey sausage tomato sauce (in the freezer, but will bag up tomorrow) which ended up perhaps a bit too light on protein but pretty low on cals.
I changed my food a couple of times (missed morning snack, was nauseous at afternoon snack and dinner time). However, I did manage to get two snacks and a meal in during the rest of the evening. And the headache is pushed off far enough that I should be able to get to sleep.
