Today’s totals - Jan 17th, 2008

Exercise - 90 minutes on the treadmill (3 x 30 mins at 2mph), 15 mins toning DVD

Water - 11 cups

Food - 1855 calories (23% fat, 47% carbs, 28% protein)

Breakfast - protein shake, 3 clementines (159)

Lunch - navy bean soup with parmesan cheese, apple, fruit salad (558)

Dinner - balsamic pork tenderloin, broccoli, butter, salad, french dressing (497)

Snacks - protein shake (x2), apple, fruit salad, salt and vinegar crispers (641)

I split the treadmill up today, which worked nicely. Until I’m sure my muscles are good, I’m going to break up the sets. I then put on an old DVD I have and tried the ab workout (not a go) and then did 15 minutes of the toning section. That just about did me in, but I still logged it as “calisthenics, light or moderate effort” in FitDay even though it felt like vigorous effort! The food was actually a low day and I had to look for food to bring it up (that’s why the parmesan on the soup).

round - yes, I know I might need more calories at night, but I think some of it is old habits. I’ve always been a very bad late night snacker. This is an attempt to plan for it.

mizu - I know that breaking up the routines are good. That’s why I pulled the old DVD out. I do some work with weights (but not enough), and I know adding strength training is a good idea. Once I’m a little more into the treadmill I’m going to use the program(s) on the treadmill which include different speeds and inclines. The one I have now probably only the first program is doable, but it will give me a little more change. Once the spring comes there will be garden work, and eventually the pool, but the winter just sucks for outdoor activities.

Ouch, ouch, ouch

Well, I overdid it somewhere yesterday. I’ve definitely got sore muscles in my left leg. The good (bad) thing is that it doesn’t seem to hurt when I’m walking on a flat surface, so this means I’ll still do the treadmill today. I’d convinced myself last night that if it still hurt this morning I could do other things (exercise-wise). I’ve got the meat sauce started, and the stuff from yesterday in the freezer. I think today I’ll break up the times on the treadmill. I’ve been doing them all at once. I originally started doing 30 minute sessions, divided by 20-30 minute rest times. That just took too long to do, so I went to 2×45 minute times, which is perhaps too much. I have to remember that I’m carrying more than 50 pounds more than when I last did the treadmill daily, and even that was 5 days in 7.

Oh, and I also went back and added calories for the specific meals. I was reading the comment from leanmoomercows and realized that I generally have higher calorie meals than most people doing this. When you’re aiming for 1800-2000 I think most people would still take more at breakfast (and even lunch) than I do. I could never find a source of protein that I could stick with in the morning, so I ended up going with a protein shake. I get 17g of protein in only 90 calories. I take my carbs in with fruit (clementines at the moment). This gives me a breakfast at 159 cals, and lunch runs somewhere around 400 - 500 depending on what soup and fruit is around. For the average dieter, this probably is close to a breakfast/lunch/morning snack combo. Where my meals go away from the typical dieter is probably dinner. I noticed for the last few days they hit between 600 and 700 calories. This is fine for me, since it still leaves me with plenty of snack calories, which at the moment I really do need. I’m hoping when I need to drop calories (ie. at a plateau) I can cut back on some of the snack calories and that should be it.

Hmm, that was way too much about food! Well, I’m off to check the sauce and maybe get in my first session on the treadmill.

leanmoomercows - the meatloaf is quite good. I tend to cook the potatoes and onions with it (since I’m counting all the fat calories in the meatloaf, why not). Come to think of it I could likely do the broccoli with it as well. I’m going to add the recipe to the recipe blog I started, I’ll add a link when I do. I’m not sure it will be today, since the muscle pain I’m having today seems to be worst when sitting at the computer. And as to the water, yes, I probably do go to the bathroom a fair bit. Although, looking at it, I’m taking perhaps 2-3 cups between getting up and early afternoon. Then, after the treadmill I take more, and then comes dinner. The rest comes after dinner, watching TV or working on the computer. So most of my trips are in the early evening, when I’m downstairs and closest to it! I know, I know - way too much information.

Got the recipe put in - you can find it here: Spicy Meatloaf

round - her birthday is in February, so it’s a bust for a different type of party. The neighbour will have a surprise party a couple of days after her birthday (so she thinks she’s safe). I will have a party in the early summer here at the house, which she’s actually agreed to.
