As I am typing this, I’m eating a pear.  woo hoo…haven’t touched the truffles.  As I eat the pear, I realize that all canned fruits are just wrong, especially peaches and pears.

Last night I did the Jillian Michaels Frontside dvd.  No question that it gave me a workout.  At the end, I couldn’t lift my arms.  Not, it hurt to much to lift them.  I mean I physically had no strength left at all to lift my arms over my head.  I now understand what it means to work your muscles to exhaustion…lol.

Both dvds are set up with 6 circuits.  Each circuit is made up of 3 sets of 3 to 4 moves, with you doing 10 reps of each move.  Each set has a cardio component, an upper body move, a lower body move, and some include an ab workout.  Jillian is great at telling you how to modify the move to make it easier or more advanced.  The moves are basic and uncomplicated.  The plan right now is to do each video once a week and work my way up to twice a week.

Popcorn December 10, 2007

Everything seems to be going to the little 100 Calorie packets…some good, some just smaller versions of the same bad for you stuff.  BUT, I found one 100 calorie product worth checking out.  It’s Orville Redenbacher’s smart pop mini bags.  The kind I tried is the kettle korn, but it’s available in butter flavor as well. The kettle korn (and I’m assuming the butter flavor) is only 1 point for the entire bag, and it’s more than enough for one person.

Pear v. Truffle

I am currently clerking for a judge and since Thanksgiving we’ve had a steady stream of goodies brought to the office from various law firms.  That’s where the cookies from Friday came from.  Biggest problem:  the table they have decided to place everything on is right outside my door.  I have to pass it to go anywhere.  Today’s goodies are an assortment from Harry and David, which at least means it has their great pears and apples.  But, it also has truffles.  I am a chocolate freak.

Well, I’m a freak for good chocolate. I can pass up plain milk chocolate and regular candy bars.  I developed my taste for good chocolate when I first went to London.  The chocolate in Europe is just different from what we have here in the US.  It’s richer, creamier, darker…just plain better.  So, now the battles begins…what will win out…the pears or the truffles?!?  The only good news is that one truffle is only 2.5 points…yes, I’ve already done the calculation.

Strength Training

Saturday I decided to do a little strength training.  I did Jillian Michaels’ dvd for beginners that focuses on the backside muscles.  Jillian is one of the trainers on NBC’s show The Biggest Loser.  I’ve honestly never watched the show and find her to be slightly annoying, but her workout is simple, basic, and straight forward.  Plus, she is great at explaining exactly why you’re doing what you’re doing.  I did the workout without any problems … when it was over, I felt like I’d had a workout but wasn’t overly exhausted or nearly collapsing like after some workout dvds.  So, I almost questioned whether it was going to be effective at all.  My body answered that question yesterday and today with a big ole YES!!!  I’m so sore, every where from my arms to my thighs…my butt even hurts.  HA!!  Tonight I plan to do Jillian’s frontside video…hopefully I can walk tomorrow…lol.

Blogging and cookies December 7, 2007

I just came across this video talking about all those people out there blogging about weightloss…LOL.  Thought it was interesting.

Tomorrow will be my second weigh in at Weight Watchers.  According to the scale at home, I’m down 2 lbs. so I’m hoping that shows on the official scale at WW.  Today has actually been great for my approach to food.  I’ve been off and on so many diets because I have the all or nothing mentality.  Once I’ve blown the day, I usually say “oh well, might as well eat whatever I want to now.  I’ll start back fresh tomorrow.”  Only “tomorrow” is never really tomorrow…it’s more like weeks or months down the road.

The thing that I love about WW is that no food it taboo, nothing is off limits, so nothing triggers my “oh well, I’ve blown it” mind set.  A little while ago someone brought in cookies to work, and they just happened to be my favorite.  Normally, I would have had several, felt bad about it, said oh well, and then gone some where horrible for dinner.  This time, I had one cookie, ate it very slowly, enjoyed every bite, and logged it into my WW tracker.  I still have plenty of points left to have a great dinner, but most of all I don’t feel bad and I don’t feel like I’ve blown anything.  Also, I don’t want another cookie.  One was plenty.  One was worth the points, two…not so much.  Yay for small steps!!!

5K December 6, 2007

Filed under: Fitness — mffallaw @ 8:50 am

I’ve always wanted to run a 5K.  I guess I’ve just always had in my mind that people who do that are fit, strong, and healthy.  My biggest problem…I am not a runner…not even close.  The closest I’ve come was in October when I walked/jogged the Race for the Cure 5K.  I jogged about 1/3 of the race and walked the rest.

There is a 5K coming up in February and I’ve decided that I want to jog the entire thing.  In order to prepare, I’m following the couch to 10K plan suggested by the head of the Birmingham, Alabama running club.  Yesterday was my first day.  The program alternates moments of jogging with moments of walking until you’re jogging more than you’re walking.  Eventually, as the weeks progress, all you’re doing is jogging.  I started on week 2 of the plan, and I did 2.5 miles (1.5 of which I jogged…of course, not all at the same time).
