I Ran 8.5 Miles Today!!!
General, Running Milestones. 2 Comments »I did it and I can hardly believe it. 8.5 Miles and what rush!!! I felt great at mile 5 though I was starting to feel it good at that point I knew I could do 6. Then I thought “jeeze why not see if i can push through to 7 just for the hell of it”. Good to push, right? At least try! Wow, was I surprised how easily I polished off mile 7. It was like I’d gotten another surge of energy in my legs and they felt less tired as I went. Normally I use several landmarks I have picked out that mark my miles and half miles, but today I changed course just shy of several of these and wasn’t exactly sure of my mileage so I ran what I thought was just over 8 miles. Didn’t want to find out after that I did 7.9…Oh I was having that 8. It was going to happen! I finished what I thought was my 8 miles, in a gleeful stupor
I stretched out and jumped right on my bike to do the course I’d just ran as a cool down ride and to verify my mileage.
8 with an extra half!!!! My God I’m an athlete! Now everybody I see I have to tell them. LOLOL I’m sure there’s a few people here that think I’m off my rocker. Good!!! Unless you’ve made a decent effort to try running then you can’t appreciate how challenging it actually is and all that it takes to build up enough stamina to put a few miles under your belt. I was amazed myself after years of biking and aerobics at how running put me in my place right away. I was too stubborn to quit, cause that’s the way I am, and possibly I got a tiny bit of addicted to it right from the start. Even now I head out for a run and I haven’t a clue as to how far I’ll be able to go. I may feel great and be sunk after 2 miles, or I may think “3 miles if I’m lucky” and lo and behold I get 8.5 frigging miles!!!
My knee feels great! What a relief! I tell ya’s I’m starting to think they’re full of shit when I hear someone say, “Oh, running is hard on your knees”. Oh yeah? Well sitting on your ass on the couch chowing and gobbley gutting is harder on a lot more than just your knees!
8.5miles and running strong!
