UH OH!

Had a great weigh in this morning. 0.0 pounds lost! Yay me! Okay, okay I’ll back up a bit here. I went to the nicest outdoor wedding on Saturday morning and trust me I’m not a big ‘goer’ and yet surprise…I really enjoyed it! They had a BBQ after and a great spread of chow. I had a burger, salad, 3 kinds of macaroni salad and some taco salad. After that I went back for another burger!!! Yes bigprof, I too have a weakness for burgers  Honest to God I could have stuffed them into me till I was in agony they were that darned good. Did I mention the wedding cake? No? Yup…I did…cake and coffee. I have no idea why the scales were so kind to me and I’m going to have to work my ass off this week just in case there’s a delayed reaction.
Also, we went to a party Sat night and I had two drinks…not bad huh? I didn’t feel much into drinking, boys it sure seemed like a long time for my burgers to wear off, and I didn’t get my afternoon nap…awww! My guy was working late as they had to have all of the lobster traps up by months end. We ended up going late and Little Miss Social Butterfly me, who feels lost in large bunches of people, couldn’t wait to get the hell out of there almost as soon as we arrived. It was an back yard party at friends of my guy’s. I say his friends, even thought this is a very small place and we all know each other, he’s 7 years younger than me and as I lived away for 20 years he has more history with them. And I’ll admit that I’m a bit of a recluse :) I guess that’s what you’d call me. Now I don’t mind a small gathering for an evening here and there, but a whole yard full of squealing, screeching and giggling women (yes there is this one f***ing giggling chick and she giggles sober. I just want to cuff her a good one!) and staggering, mumbling and hardy har-haring men and I had people overload. All peopled out! That sounds awful, doesn’t it? I did have a few good laughs, but Oh I love my mellow life so much!!!
That was my weekend and now it’s back to work and I couldn’t be happier about it. I just want to concentrate on my weight and fitness now…pahleeze!

This morning the fog was thick as pudding again which equals a great run morning! I find the cool wet weather soothes my muscles and I run a lot better. Once I get that first mile under my belt, my warm up mile as I call it, then it get quite easy. Not easy with a capital E, but easy compared to what I used to struggle through. Baby steps!

Can’t believe it’s time again to try and earn some money periwinkling. A whole month has sailed by and how is that possible? Jeeze did I stumble into a time machine or what? The older ya get the faster it goes, stupid saying and this is ridiculous. Slow down Time! Mellow out! Chill a spell.

Oops forgot…ran 6 miles!

The ‘Dark Ages of Dial Up’ blues!

General 5 Comments »

Finally! What appears to be a decent connection. Yes, I live in dial up hell and so I suck it up and live in slow mode. Apparently there was something in the line, where else ?, causing intermittent interference which put me on the receiving end of 28.8 and less kabiggleploops. (insert severely insane laughter here) Every so often and almost every lightening storm requires a call to the phone co. and my not so speedy but I can live with it, 45.5 kabiggleploops are restored. It feels great to be back!!!

Wednesday I started a run and met up with sis in law coming along about 2 miles from her place. She turned and ran along with me. :) she didn’t want to hold me back though and I had to laugh. I told her I was going for distance and vice versa on the holding back stuff! We ran to the other end of the island and she came back with me far enough to give herself 5 miles to her place. Now this gal has been running about 3 miles now for awhile and couldn’t get past it. She said that was good enough and she was happy to be running that much at least. Ah perhaps, but just the other day something shifted, the alignment of the planets perhaps?, and wasn’t she surprised to find herself running 5 miles like it was nothing!!! LOLOL I knew once she had a taste of it, and realized that she wasn’t incapable of ever running more than 3 miles, she’d be back for more! MWAH HA HA! I was pumped, man! I knew all along she could do it. Didn’t I just get thru the same ordeal of breaking the 5 mile barrier, and the 3 to 4 mile shift was a bit of a hurdle, too! So to you, my blogging running chick friends, it can happen! It will happen! Patience and perseverance will take you a long way. For me, the most important thing of all is the love of running itself that keeps me going. Each and every new half mile added is a blissful celebration. Short runs come so easily now and are sheer joy because I’m always reminded of how much I struggled at one time to get through them.
Here’s a little something I took away from a recent run. I was on my way home from a cool, overcast morning run when the sun broke through the clouds and I spied my shadow. My breathe caught in my throat! It’s been weeks since I’ve been running late enough to have a shadow and oh my the difference was like a before and after photo. My other shadow was…a dumpy waddler(?) and this shadow, this runners shadow…there are no words right now I’m still choked up.
I love to run!

Monday Weigh In

Well, I’ve done it again! No tentative testing of toes on the scales this morning. No slowly easing my fat a$$ on in hopes of preventing the pointer from skyrocketing up a few extra pounds. Not today. I attacked those dammed scales, by golly, I pounced on ‘em and decided it is what it is. What it is is down 3.5 pounds this week! Say HELLO 185.5!!! I stood there in front of the mirror in my undies and did the old eyeball critique. Wow, I thought, I’m impressed!!! Agog! 17.5 pounds total since I started my blog on April 23rd.I’ve managed to whittled away most of the fat I was mortified to discover on my knees. I was running and noticed my kneecaps jiggling. FAT!!! I felt horrible, then I was scared cause I wondered if I had “old people knees” already. Oh God No!!! Not at 49. Funny how now I’m relieved it was the fat knees I’d first been mortified over. :) My thighs almost don’t touch. And something that has bothered me most of all is disappearing. My side fat. Yes side fat. I pack on weight on my upper body like it’s nobody’s business and I had fat rolls making creases on my sides. I am ready to wear form fitting tank tops…sans rolls! YAY! Finally I’ve got something that appears to be working for me! Fingers crossed, toes crossed ahhh hell, eyes crossed, too, but only briefly!
Got in a 5 mile run this morning and it surprised me as I was only going to do about 2 just to top off yesterdays 6.5 miler. I can’t express enough how much the cross training on my bike has helped towards improving on my distance and also, aided my recovery after running. LOLOL wish I had stumbled onto this months ago, but I had read how a lot of stretching afterwards is enough. Should have known old oddball here was going to have to do it her way! Just goes to show that we should keep an open mind to stepping outside “the boxes”. ;)

Foggy Sunday.

Great for running. This chick got up and slammed down a coffee, chowed down a yogurt, cereal, skim milk and some water.

This chick ran 6.5 miles!!! This chick biked 9 miles after!!! This chick is pooped!!!

After my run/ride I ate a bowl of cereal, two pcs. bacon and chugged water till I sloshed.

Here’s my lunch, just cause I don’t have to log :)

Sweet potato with margarine, squash, peas and canned salmon. Something about canned salmon and canned peas, weird but I love ‘em together.

Now it’s nap time!

I’ve been crossing off things on my “to do” list. Yup, can’t let any more pile up or I’ll run away…far far away. I don’t know, pretty long list and it’d involve a lot of running to get clear of it. So, the list it was! Yesterday I crawled into my Mums tub and stripped out all of the old caulking. I installed a 3 pce. wall unit about 8 years ago and some of the lower caulking looked unsightly, too. Halfway thru that the fog lifted enough for the lawns to dry so off I went to mow. Mowed a big one and then mowed Mums, plus all of the weed whacking. Spied some huge carpenter ants making a line to under the shed, they try every year, and so I went into ‘psycho kill it all with raid mode’ and spray bombed them with the entire contents of one can. No ants today! Finished the bathroom job and it passed inspector Mom with these rewarding words, “Why that’s right respectable looking”!

Got around early this morning and devoted hours to my garden. Been waiting till I thought it was safe to transplant all of the young plants I’ve nurtured from my greenhouse to the garden. My guy always tills with the big tiller early spring and today I had to get out my mini tiller and go over everything again. I spent a couple of hours sifting thru the soil and picking out any churned up weeds I could find. I planted an extra double row of peas for an extra munch or two later on this fall after the others are done.. Zucchini, cherry tomatoes, cukes, pak choi, cauliflower, and brocolli are settling in nicely. Tomorrow I’ll plant my spinach, green beans and I have some type of chinese radish I thought looked interesting to plant. I like to decorated and mark rows with rocks I paint so I’ll throw a pic on here so you can see my little piece of heaven. If I could live someplace where I could garden year round I’d never be seen shopping in the produce section again!!! I always try to choose locally grown produce first. :) Fresh is best!

Had a great nap this afternoon and finished up around the yard. No running tonight. I thought I’d have a whirl at it in the morning. LOLOL I plead gardeners knee!

Now I’m off to the back yard. My guy has a fire a blazing in the fire pit and it calls to me…oh wait…wrong…that’d be ‘his highness’ a calling out to me!

chow for now!

And what about Thursday?

Up with the Black Capped Chickadees and out for a 2.5 mile run. Short n sweet cause there was work to do! Very nice run.

Just finished mowing a couple of lawns and part of another. Mosquitoes, need I say more.

*Note to self- get a can of bug dope.
I had about 5 chocolates this afternoon. Don’t know what the hell that was about but oh my, they were some damned good! And surprisingly enough quite sickening sweet, so I was able to stop myself and walk away. WOW, huh? I’m calling that a victory by the Joe Jingles!  :)

…for all of the great comments last post! It’s wonderful to have you all to share it with because you know how tough it can be and how hard we have to claw and dig at times to make even a little headway. Ah yet still we keep going, suckers for punishment.

Last evening we were smothered by a thick blanket of fog. So thick it was churning out just enough of a mist that you couldn’t quite call it rain. Naturally, I went for a run! I did a little churning of my own and churned out 5 miles like it was nothing…ha ha ha…nothing but a darned struggle the last mile and a half, and I had to stop and stretch a couple of times, but I did it!!! Right after I stretched a bit, jumped into my trail shoes, exchanged my fog drenched top for a cozy hooded top and headed out on my bike for a ride. 11.5 miles just easy cycling to keep the knots out and I felt great! :) when I got home I was soaked! After a hot shower and a bowl of “Allbran with honey something er other” I called it a night!

Looks like another rainy day out there and I hear the fog horn blowing out at the lighthouse, so that darned fog must be hovering just off shore waiting…lurking…passing time till evening falls… Mwah Ha Ha!!!

Guess what?

I’m in the 180’s! Let the bells ring and the banners fly “I’m here”! I made it! I’m here! I’m pumped! Say hello, 189 pounds! I can’t believe I forgot to weigh in yesterday! Had a busy day and NO WAY I’d weigh in later in the day. I’m 189 and I don’t give a rats petunia about the scales later today. I’m 189 dammit!!!…calming breath…mellow…tranquil…WHOOOFREAKINHOO!!!

I did a most amazing w/o last night. Biked 14 miles and then ran 4.5 miles, stretched real good and biked another 4 miles to keep the legs from seizing up. Now I wasn’t sure about the run part after yesterdays break back into it run, but I went for it and other than stopping 4 times to briefly stretch I have to say it went quite well. I also have to say I’d be an idiot not to take a rest day today. So, seems I’m not an idiot, that I’m aware of, then rest it is! I will do an upper body w/o and abs and should be doing it more than I have. Oh goody, something else to work on. Get out those big girl weights and drive the body. Maybe I’ll snivel, whine and blubber a bit throughout the w/o like they do on ‘Biggest Loser’. Must have helped with the weightloss, they did so much of it! ;-) Grrrrrrrowl I’d have to slap myself silly. Damned whining!!!

Looks like rain today. Yay. Who can tell I garden? :) And that’s where I’m off to…catch ya later!

Ready to Run!

General 2 Comments »

Thank God my legs are finally on the mend. All of those not so mysterious aches ‘n pains and weird pulling sensations are GONE! Tonight I am heading out on a run and I’m glad now that I waited cause I feel pretty good. I’ll feel a lot better to be running and biking off some more pounds and I’m not sure how my weigh in will go tomorrow. It’s been very very hot, for here, the past few days and I had a couple of accidents with my lips running into a few iced coffee’s. Sounds innocent enough, huh? My iced coffees are, in fact, coffee liquor(lot’s of glug glug glug’s) , 2% milk and ice blended to a frosty, thirst quenching perfection! Ahhhh heaven in this hellish heat. Mmmmmm! Looks like I need running to save me from myself! Okay…here I go! Please legs don’t let me down!

After The Run:

I did 4 miles and let me say this about that…it didn’t come easy, but wasn’t as tough as I feared. Took it slow and easy and the middle of the run wasn’t too shabby at all. The beginning and end were a bit hellish and for spite I hung in there all the way. I may have to ease up on the periwinkling just a little, and fine, my running is here to stay! I stretched out after and had a little 5 mile bike ride in the dark of night. Got a really cool flashing tail light with a clip that comes off and can be attached to my clothes for when I run after dark. Highly recommend it for any nighttime running. Oh and what a beautiful night it is out there. A light breeze, a brilliant moon and get this, the fire flies are out now and there were tons of little lights everywhere on the ground. I love a night like this! Ahhhh love love love it!

Sure hope this helps my weigh in tomorrow! Aww heck, if not, it’s a gonnabea big goose for next weeks!

Chow for now!
