St. Paddy’s 5k

General 3 Comments »

Yay! Great news and something I’d always hoped for. DH is going to do a 5k with me! Actually, his company is paying for families to do this particular one, so I’m so excited! He will walk (with the baby) and I will do the run. Did I say yay?!

I meant to post this last night, but the internet was down here.

Exercised last night with Y!F for 30 minutes. That Maya loves her damn jumping jacks. After the 5th set, I thought I was going to die! But I made it through. She also included weights in there. Best thing about last night, I didn’t give into the cravings!

Plan for today is a 3-4 mile run, tomorrow rest. I will update this post later to let ya’ll know about the run.

Interesting study about addiction to sugar

From the study:

“Here we report that when rats were allowed to choose mutually-exclusively between water sweetened with saccharin–an intense calorie-free sweetener–and intravenous cocaine–a highly addictive and harmful substance–the large majority of animals (94%) preferred the sweet taste of saccharin. The preference for saccharin was not attributable to its unnatural ability to induce sweetness without calories because the same preference was also observed with sucrose, a natural sugar. Finally, the preference for saccharin was not surmountable by increasing doses of cocaine and was observed despite either cocaine intoxication, sensitization or intake escalation–the latter being a hallmark of drug addiction.”

Nibble bug

That’s what I call it when I feel like I just want to nibble, nibble, nibble food all night long. Argh, I so hate to have this feeling. I’m done eating for today. Well I have about 25 calories left, but better just to leave well enough alone.

I’ve done a 1 mile walk today with the stroller, but I will do strength training and Y!F tonight when baby goes to bed. Eating has gone well today, and it WILL go well for the rest of the day.

I’ve gone 3 days without any diet drinks. I told my DH that I SWORE I was done with them. All I’ve been drinking is water, one cup of coffee, sweetened with honey, and the occasional cup of green tea. I will be happy if I can make this a permanent change.

Here’s a picture of the baby and myself after a run. I just thought I would want to chronicle this one day when he was bigger.

Going out for a 3 mile run, just wanted to post here first for accountability. I will make another post when I get home.

Update: I did the 3 miles, yay. It was a good day for a run. The only bad thing that happened was that I tookDH’s phone with me because mine was dead, somehow dropped it in the parking lot and then ran over it! What an idiot I am! Oh well. I bought a food scale and I think that will come in handy. Lately when I see that a serving is say, 6 oz, I just kind of eyeball it, but now I can be sure.  I plan to do 3 miles again on Thursday and then Friday will be a rest day. Tomorrow is a workout DVD or Y!F.

Thanks for the encouragement, ladies :)

Wow, it’s been a busy weekend! I got my long run done yesterday, but only managed to do 4.5 miles, because I haven’t been running like I should. The 10k is this weekend, so I’m really nervous. I’m not going to sweat it though, just going to keep going and if I have to walk some of it, so be it.

Eating has been so-so this weekend. Today has gone well so far. I’m going to do a workout video and some yoga stretches when the baby gets a nap in.

Body Fat Percentage

General 3 Comments »

Those who have been reading with me awhile know that I got an awesome scale back in july that is very accurate and also has a body fat scale. Back in July it said 47%…I redid it periodically, but told myself awhile back I wasn’t going to do for awhile. Well, I stepped on there this morning and my body fat was 38.5%. Yay :) That makes me feel good.

Ok, so here’s the breakdown on body fat:

Description Women Men
Essential fat 12–15% 2–5%
Athletes 16–20% 6–13%
Fitness 21–24% 14–17%
Acceptable 25–31% 18–25%
Obese 32%+ 25%+

Great, so I’m still obese, but not as obese. And I have one pound until my BMI won’t be considered in the obese range as well. Of course I know that body fat scales are not always as accurate as other methods, but it’s nice to have some sign of progress. I suppose if I got down to 24% that I would be on cloud 9.

I found this oldie but good while I was searching for my body fat percentage in my old entries. Let’s revisit this shall we? :)

I was looking back through my old weigh ins and see that I was at this weight back at the end of october. Actually, I was 195.8 then and I’m 195.0 now. So the last 3 months have really been wasted time and pussyfooting around. I promised myself that I wouldn’t fall into the trap of the holidays, but that’s just what I did and with weight gain. Oh well, nothing to do now, but learn from it.

I was going to do a progress picture just to get back into the habit of it, but I think it looks the same. Also, I am having a really bad hair day and would rather that not be caught on camera lol. So next month definitly!

I finally found some steel cut oats at a local health food store and am going to use the crockpot method that I saw girlygirlsebas post on her blog. I just hope the baby likes them. They weren’t as expensive as I thought they would be, either. I also found some local honey that I’m sure is going to be delicious. I love local honey, tastes so much better than the commercial kind. I slacked off on the running yesterday. I had a lot to do and DH is having guests over this weekend, so I want to clean to house. Also, the weather has just been yucky. But if I dont want to be totally embarrassed at the 10k,I need to get my butt in gear.

Ok breakdown of the last couple of days:

I did the 2 miles on the 18th.

Sunday I tried to do my 5.5 miles and everything was working against me. For one thing I took an overly long nap. When I woke up it was 3:45. By the time I got ready it was 4:15. I decided to go to the hilly course because it was closer and would cut down on time. I ended up getting in almost 2 miles before it started getting dark. Then  I said well, I’mjust going to run the rest of this as fast as I can. Big mistake. Apparently gobbling down a quick meal of beef stew and then going for a run is a bad idea, especially when you want to run “as fast as you can”. I threw up about 1 minute into my “speed running”. So, it was a bad run to say the least. I threw in the towl then. I think I did about 2.5 miles.

Luckily I have an extra week in my schedule so I will just repeat next sunday.

Weight today: 195.0

I did not calorie count yesterday, but I watched what I ate. Some days I just need a break from it. Also it helps me see how well I can do without it. But of course I am returning to it today.
