New Progress pic up

I took a new one yesterday and put it up. I can’t ever seem to get the camera to focus as well as I would like. It must be something with that timer that does it. I almost thought, why bother to take a picture,  I don’t think I’ve really changed, but gosh there is a difference. Still a long way to go *sigh* I really think I’m getting more muscular though. I can really feel my thigh muscles firming up. That’s all for today, time for a nap :)

Whoa, slow it down there…

I’m talking about my eating. I didn’t eat anything for breakfast because I had to rush out of the house this morning. I crammed the baby full of some bananas and cereal and left the house. When I got home, as I was unloading groceries I had 10 almonds, which isn’t so bad, but then I sat down to eat lunch and was starving. Here’s what I had:

lean cuisine (rice and beans), a smart ones brownie, turkey sandwhich…I figure that’s about 900 calories just for this morning. So…I’ve got to slow it down for the rest of the day. THAT, boys and girls, is why we do NOT skip breakfast.

I’m going to do 45 minutes of Y!F focusing on core muscles. Tomorrow is my next day of C25K week 2.

I really would like to get some nice running shoes. I have a pair already that I got from a consignment shop. They support my feel pretty well, and I haven’t had any problems yet, but I really think some from Fleet Feet would be good since I plan to run long term.

Small things I’ve changed to make my life healthier

–I park far away from a store (if it’s not dark)

–I try to drink a full glass of water before I eat

–I sit on a stability ball when at the computer

–When I check the mail, I run to the mailbox and back

–Instead of soda, I have been drinking 1/2 fruit juice mixed with 1/2 seltzer water

–I do butt clenches while waiting at stop lights (yes, how nutty is that?!)

I’m pooped!

Last night my best friend came over and DH grilled out. I ate a small sirloin steak, some of which I shared with baby, mashed potatoes (with a little skin left in), sauteed mushrooms, and 2 whole wheat rolls. The only bad thing about my meal was that there was considerable butter on the mashed poatoes and rolls, but overall I think I did well. I didn’t eat anything else for the rest of the night. Afterwards, my best friend and I played DDR for almost 3 hours. It was a blast, even though I continue to suck at it. We were both breathless by the end. I fell asleep while putting the baby to bed and was out like a light.

Today, I had planned to go out this morning for my run, but baby was on an odd schedule and I had chores to do around the house. It just wasn’t a good idea for this morning. I would’ve preferred to go this evening, but I’m supposed to have a repair man come by and he said he would call me around 2, but it’s way past 2 now and no phone call. This is no surprise. I knew that if I waited on him, I’d be waiting all day. So I decided to go around 1.

This was stupid in so many ways. First, I forgot my water bottle. Second, it was blazing hot (95 degrees) and the sun was out in full force, and Third, IT WAS HOT. I couldn’t stand it especially with a new routine. So I did a 10 minute walk and  about 3 of the 90 second runs with 2 minutes in between before I couldn’t stand it. I continued to walk until 30 minutes was up and then baby and I got out of dodge. Luckily he had a sippy of water and seemed pretty happy the whole time. We were in the shade for the most part, (and he had extra shade because of his canopy) but I was not a happy camper.

Anyhoo. I will do my weightlifting when baby takes his second nap and then a nice long soak in the tub.

I weighed in today and the scale said 204.2 and body percentage was 46.5! So that’s a loss of 1.8 pounds and 0.5 percent body fat this week! That’s the most I’ve lost in a long time. I can’t help but feel the running has something to do with it. I didn’t post yesterday because I was DEAD tired. The baby decided that he was no longer going to sleep at night and unfortunately that was the night that DH and I stayed up til 1 am watching TV. I went to bed and the baby didn’t fall asleep fully until about 4 or 5 am. Then he wanted to get up at 8 am, so it was not a happy day for me. I also, needless to say, did not do my workout. Then I made the big mistake of eating last night. I can handle those hunger pains if I’m well rested, but not when I’m sleep deprived and grumpy. I’m still waiting for the water weight to show up. I really am looking forward to running again, can’t wait for tomorrow!

Workout

I did the last day of the first week of C25k. It wasn’t so bad this last time and I did the 60 sec run pretty easily (that last one is always hard, no matter what though). I’m a little scared of next week because I do 90 seconds running and then 2 minutes walking.

I neglected to exercise yesterday, though I did do a lot of cleaning up and furniture moving. Tomorrow is supposed to be a free day, but I may do Y!F to make up for yesterday. Scale is holding steady at 205.2 which I’m surprised because I’m usually getting a lot of water weight by now. I’m going to do some free weights in a bit and then more house cleaning.

I am trying to quit sodas. I had only 1 yesterday and 1 today (really half of one). I’m tempted to buy some fruit juice and water it down and maybe have that once or twice a day, but I’m afraid I would go overboard. Off to do more housework!

Today I weighed in at 205.2. So down a pound!

I was supposed to do Y!F last night, but due to painters would said they would be here yesterday, but later callled and said they “probably” would be here today or tomorrow, my playstation,  TV, and whole entertainment center are unplugged and pushed to the middle of the living room, along with all the other furniture in there. So, I did DDR in the “family” room. I played for an hour, but probably only got about 40-45 minutes of total exercise in between choosing songs. I forgot how fun that was, I haven’t played it in a while and it got me really sweating.

I’m not posting my whole menu today, but I started the day off with 2 pieces of whole wheat toast and 2 scrambled brown eggs. I read online that the only difference between brown eggs and white eggs are the species of chicken they come from, but the brown eggs carton says that they are higher in vitamin E and omega 3? I don’t guess anyone knows if there is actually a difference? Would love to know.

I’m off to do day 3 of C25K (couch to 5k). I think I will probably do 4 days of the first week, since I started it last Saturday and would like to keep it in on a M, W, F schedule. So my next day of it will be Friday. I’ll post how it goes later. I’m going to a new track that is flatter and smoother.

Ug!

Ever wake up at 4 in the morning and have the munchies so bad? It’s 4 am here and I can’t fall back asleep. I want something to eat so badly. I remember the old days, when I was pregnant (and after ha!) waking up and eating some cookies or graham crackers, or heck, a whole meal. There’s fried chicken and biscuits in the fridge from my husband’s meal this weekend and I haven’t laid a hand on it, but the temptation is so strong right now. I’m going to drink a glass of water and maybe watch some TV to until I get sleepy again.

PS …the comments here really make me feel uplifted, especially because I have so many self criticisms and doubts. I am so thankful for you ladies and I can’t wait until we all reach our fitness/diet goals!

Dr. Oz?

Exercise, General 5 Comments »

I’ve said before on this blog that I am a big fan of Dr. Oz. I’ve read his weight loss book and occasionally thumb through this other book. I just saw an episode of Oprah where he said it’s ok to suck in when you’re measuring your waist (at the bellybutton) because you can’t suck in fat. He also said that the ideal waist size is 1/2 of your height. I am 5′7 so my ideal waist measurement is 33.5 inches or lower. I really don’t remember that from the book, I will have to re-read it. Tomorrow morning I will re-measure myself and see what it is sucking in.

Exercise: I did 35 minutes of the running program: 10 minute warm up, 20 minutes alternating 60 seconds of jogging, 90 seconds of walking, followed by a 5 minute cool down walk. Lifted some weights when I came home. I made my own little workout, using 10 pound dumbells:

10 X 3 sideraises and frontraises

12 X3 bicep curls

12 X 3 upward rows

12 X 3 shoulder presses

12 X 3 tricep kickbacks

50 crunches on the stability ball

25 bicycle crunches
