The Wedding
Well after an emotionally charged few weeks about the wedding it happened and was a fabulous tearful event.
I arrived at the Calgary aiport about 9pm and my dear friends surprised me by being there to greet me - -the husband had driven into Calgary the day before and the wife flew in earlier on Friday — they really are wonderful friends and I was so glad that I decided to go with them. Saturday was gloomy and rainy and I was very sad for the wedding party but just an hour before the clouds parted and it was sunny for the rest of the day. I was able to greet the father of the bride first inside the church — I haven’t seen him since the divorce (he lives in Phoenix). The contigent from BC was treated like family — given priority seating and I really felt welcomed. The mother of the bride was just beaming and looked beautiful. When the father walking his absolutely stunning totally gorgeous daughter down the aisle I was sure the dress she had on was the most beautiful I had ever seen. The bride is very tall and slender and she carried the dress off to perfection — I am totally addicted to wedding shows on tv and never ever have I seen such a stunningly beautiful dress — in case you haven’t figured it out I loved the dress LOL.
After the service I got to give my friend a huge hug and tell her how fabulous her daughter looked. I have known this girl since the day she was born so it was absolutely right that I was there to witness the wedding.
The reception was “interesting” well done with good food but as I was told life in Alberta is different from BC and I saw it first hand. Not that is was a big deal (except to me and my friends) but I have never seen a wedding reception where the groom was not to be seen. He hung outside smoking with his buds while the bride was in socializing with the guests that remained inside. All I can do is shrug and say if that is the way it is why should I question it — doesn’t mean I would like to live that way. My friend pointed out that this is the way it is and it isn’t going to change.
Fun part of the evening — during the last few months the mother of the bride and the groom had been having an exchange about the dowry. It started with two blankets and a pony — he finally got her down to a rake and a goat. So as a surprise (don’t forget we are in farm country LOL) they sat the mother down and brought out the dowry — the rake and the goat - a lovely pregnant female called Goaty Hawn. The look on her face was priceless and I will have to wait for pictures to post. It was hilarious and she really and truly is the owner of the goat LOL.
Now about me — my eating sucked — I didn’t move much and now is the time to fix all that. I don’t think I overindulged too much — not much alcohol — food was so so - -but sweets was a whole other issue. I did eat too much dessert and I paid for it on Sunday. Not sure when I will ever learn — but at least when I ate the sweets at the wedding I stopped long before I would have years ago.
So on to yet another month — bound and determined to get on track and do what I need to do for my health and lifestyle.
