The Last Straw

Couch to 5k links

This is a post from my blog, but I wanted to make it a page so that it is easy to find.  In case anyone is reading this and might consider giving it a go, I wanted to put some great resources and sources of inspiration all here in one place.

Ok, first of all is Cool Running’s Couch to 5k plan. I printed out the plan and laid it beside my computer for weeks contemplating the whole thing. The plan is a system of intervals of walking and jogging/running which is designed to get your body used to running gradually.

Second, the podcasts. Made by a nice man who on his 43rd birthday decided to start running again (those of you who are already doing C25k know this line well!). The podcasts will tell you when to run and when to walk. Very helpful.

Third, the inspiration. Back before I started blogging here, I read a man’s blog called “Fat to 5k” which made me feel like couch to 5k might even work for me. This man has moved on, so you will see that he has “closed up shop”. The reason is not failure, the reason is that he now has a new blog about working towards a half marathon! Yeah for him!

And below is the extremely valuable inspiration here at various 3fatchicks blogs. All are or have been using running as a part of their fitness routine and they are all my heroes. :-D  I am sure there are more and please let me know if you know of one that I could add to this list! There is also a thread for C25k on the 3fatchicks bulletin boards, but I am a blog dweller and don’t know much about that!

I sincerely hope this is useful for someone. I feel like this goal of mine is essential to this next phase in my quest for better fitness and overall health. One thing that appeals to me is that I want to come out of this whole thing BETTER than i was before I got so overweight because it is not just about fat. It is about the fact that I have never, ever in my life been in shape. Not even as a 135 pound senior in high school. The idea that at age 35 with four kids I could be in better shape than when I was a teenager…incredible!! This gives the whole thing a more positive spin than just focusing on repairing all the damage that I have done over the past 17 years.
