The Last Straw

I used to overeat and eat foods that my body was just not doing well with. I ended up on too many medications to control my blood pressure and cholesterol. But it was niacin (to lower sky high triglycerides) that was the last straw. It caused a hellfire hotflash in the middle of the night and I seriously considered going to the ER. That was the moment that I replaced my overeating/sedentary habits with my new lifestyle.

My cholesterol stats are on the sidebar of my main page. Currently, I am no longer taking lipitor to see if I can keep it low enough with diet and exercise. I will go back in September to see if I can continue to stay off of the lipitor. I am still on one blood pressure med (enalapril). I would like to get off of that one too, but I am content to stay on it if I have to. With my family history of bp issues, I may end up staying on that one.

As for my weight, starting/current/goal is…

202/148/140-145?

The main things I focus on are:

  • counting calories to lose weight until I reach my healthy weight
  • keeping saturated fat at less than 11 grams per day
  • exercise - currently walking/running and mixing in some elliptical and weights
  • cutting back on refined carbs
  • getting a good amount of protein
  • making a conscious effort to get more monounsaturated fats
