Running jewels.

Posted by: getupnow In: General

I yap constantly about C25k. Today is an “off” day since I went to the track yesterday. So I am getting my fix by yapping about it here. In case anyone is reading this and might consider giving it a go, I wanted to put some great resources and sources of inspiration all here in one place.

Ok, first of all is Cool Running’s Couch to 5k plan. I printed out the plan and laid it beside my computer for weeks contemplating the whole thing. The plan is a system of intervals of walking and jogging/running which is designed to get your body used to running gradually.

Second, the podcasts. Made by a nice man who on his 43rd birthday decided to start running again (those of you who are already doing C25k know this line well!). The podcasts will tell you when to run and when to walk. Very helpful.

Third, the inspiration. Back before I started blogging here, I read a man’s blog called “Fat to 5k” which made me feel like couch to 5k might even work for me. This man has moved on, so you will see that he has “closed up shop”. The reason is not failure, the reason is that he now has a new blog about working towards a half marathon! Yeah for him!

And below is the extremely valuable inspiration here at various 3fatchicks blogs. All are or have been using running as a part of their fitness routine and they are all my heroes.  :-D  I am sure there are more and please let me know if you know of one that I could add to this list! There is also a thread for C25k on the 3fatchicks bulletin boards, but I am a blog dweller and don’t know much about that!

I sincerely hope this is useful for someone. I feel like this goal of mine is essential to this next phase in my quest for better fitness and overall health. One thing that appeals to me is that I want to come out of this whole thing BETTER than i was before I got so overweight because it is not just about fat. It is about the fact that I have never, ever in my life been in shape. Not even as a 135 pound senior in high school. The idea that at age 35 with four kids I could be in better shape than when I was a teenager…incredible!! This gives the whole thing a more positive spin than just focusing on repairing all the damage that I have done over the past 17 years.

Other than that…looking forward to getting to the track again tomorrow. It is not easy, but I never dread it. Still working on the good fats. Had smuckers natural peanut butter on an eggo waffle that is ”made with whole wheat” in other words, not 100% whole wheat.

How they LOVE to put “whole wheat” on a box, regardless of what the disclaimer has to be. Working on a recipe for the Cooking Light Contest - I have seen some recipe creators around here. You might want to look into this! Grand prize is $20,000 and category winners get $5,000.

Thank you, Thank you for posting this!!
I am going to dissect all the info you have supplied here and start moving my lardy butt! Thank you so much!
I don’t want to be a slim unhealthy person and swap one load of health problems for others. I want to be a slim healthy person which I know will include exercise! So thank you again!

I absolutely loved C25K the 3 times I did it. It actually got me to feel that mythical “exercise high” and there are almost no other exercises that did that for me.

Unfortunately my orthopedic surgeon said no running for me until at least

Okay, I love the guy blogger you linked to! I only had time tonight to read his last couple of entries (including race day), but his new blog has one about a 10k race where he placed 3rd! He claims it was lack of competition, but HE PLACED 3RD!

You’ve been inspiring me to remember that this whole struggle has actually been a lot of fun.

Thanks!

Oh, and glitteringpink, go for it, you won’t regret it at all!

Hey girl, what a great post today! Thanks for including me in your “hero’s & inspiration’s list” (blush) That’s so cool! I started reading one here today titled “Less of Josephine” and this gal is chalking up the miles and losing like all get out! I wish I knew how to do the name/link thing :) don’t even know the proper terminology to look it up. Help! I devoured Mr. Runner Guy’s story! Gobbled it right up and so can’t wait to run tomorrow! See ya!

Yeah, Pink!!! I will be moving my lardy GUT right along with you

Bigprof, I am glad you are back and I am loving how you are roping your husband into an event with you!! I can’t wait to hear more about that. My husband, as sweet as he is, just doesn’t show a lot of interest right now.

Periwinkle - you biking, running, gardening, mowing, periwinkling ANIMAL…I have a lot to learn from you beyond just running. I need to get more ACTIVE in general. So anyway, I don’t know how to do the name link here in comments but I can post the blog you are talking about http://3fatchicks.com/diet-blogs/tylerdurden/sweat/

C25k has literally changed my life. I know that sounds hokey, but it really has. I love hearing about others having good experiences with it too, so thanks for posting this!

  • round: Yum that recipe looks good - and what's interesting is that yesterday at the store I bought organic sausage and some whole grain pasta and didnt have
  • tiny2b: Cool chart. You asked how I can do it, the running in the cold weather. Um, when I say it's "cold," so far that has been 45 at the worst. The 20s?
