Duuuude! I totally kicked some treadmill ASS today!!!

Okay, so today was gym day. I decided to try the treadmill once again. I know I said the other day that I was done with the treadmill for running but I’m already at the gym and it’s HOT outside. I figured I’d try it once again. I took my little towel and TOTALLY covered the display so I couldn’t see anything that was going on. And I totally kicked ass!!!! I had put it on the 5k loop setting so I would at least have a semblance of distance. Anyway, I put my ipod on took off. Since I wasn’t watching time or distance, I will have to tell you by how many songs: I walked 2 songs and then ran (are you ready for this?!!) 6 SONGS!! That’s like 20 minutes or so. I ran 20 minutes straight!!! Then I walked 2 songs, ran 1.5 songs, walked 1.5 songs, and then ran 3 songs or so and that was my 5k! I upped the speed for the last song. By that time I had taken the towel off the display because i knew it was close to being done. So for the last song, I upped my speed a little.
WOOOO!!!! I was proud of myself!! Then I did some weights. I was whipped by the time I left.

Food:

Breakfast - shredded wheat, fat free milk, splenda

Lunch - salad: lettuce, pinto beans, tomatoes, salsa, cilantro; Roasted corn soup

Snack - cherries

Dinner after the gym - w/w vanilla smoothie with strawberries and 1/2 banana; Roasted Corn soup; watermelon and cantalope

I did have a small peice of cake at work. Oops.

Take 3 Advil, get thee to the gym, and call me in the morning

So to make up for my discouraging day at the gym yesterday and my feast at Chipotle this afternoon for lunch, I decided to go back to the gym this evening. After reading getupnow’s post about motivation and the comments back and forth between her and I on my blog, I decided to try to do it on my own. When I got home from work, I downloaded some new music on my ipod and as soon as hubby came home I headed for the gym. He told me not to run, but I wanted to try something. Before I left though, I took 3 advil just to be sure.

So I get to the gym and head to a treadmill. I put it on the 5k setting and took off. I walked for almost 5 minutes and then started running. I ran through 2 songs — which made it almost 8 minutes!! Then I decided to walk again for a little. My plan was to walk when I wanted too and run when I wanted too…. however — MY IPOD STOPPED WORKING!!! AUGHHHHH!!! So I ended up walking most of the time since I was fiddling with my ipod, but decided to run a few times and finished up the last 1/8 of a mile or so with a run. I finshed the 5k in under 45 minutes which I was proud of.

Then I hit the weight machines. I did a few arms, back, and chest and then concentrated on the legs. I have always been overweight, but when I was younger, I was a TONED overweight. You know what I’m talking about? Even though I was “overweight” I had muscle tone - my legs were ripped. Now it’s just flab. As I was doing the weights, I realized that’s what I really want. I want to be toned. I really wouldn’t care about the weight if I was just toned more.

So after weight machines, I hit the elliptical machine for 15 minutes. Whew!! I was wiped by the time I was done. BUT……. I weighed myself afterwards, and I was 3 lbs lighter than I was yesterday!! I think that was part of the problem yesterday. I weighed myself when I got to the gym and I was up a lb. Ugh - talk about discouragement. So I was happy to see a downward trend.

Food:

Breakfast - shredded wheat, blueberries, fat free milk, splenda —

Lunch - fajita veggie burrito from chipotle; tortilla chips/salsa — so not core

Dinner - (after the gym — needed some lean protien) salad with grilled chicken, grilled pineapple, broccoli, tomato and fat free french dressing — core. I put some walnuts on it just for some crunch and healthy fats — those are not core. Honeydew — core

Get your booty on the floor

That was my mantra last night. Get my booty on the floor!! After feeling blah all day, I decided to go ahead and go to the gym. I figured if I went and at least played one game, I might be in the mood to keep playing. So 10 minutes on the elliptical machine, 3 hours of volleyball and some weight machines later, I went home at 10:00. So much for getting to bed early. But it felt GOOD! And once I started playing I definitely wanted to keep playing. The skill level was great. From what my husband told me last week, I was a little nervous going in. I consider myself a fairly decent player but there are always those better than me. But I was fine. I shouldn’t have been nervous. My skillz were totally up to par! :)

Oh, and dinner last night ended up being a few peices of cantalope. I didn’t eat before I went to the gym, but had played so hard that I didn’t feel like eating anything heavy or hot when I got home. Plus, that sandwhich stuck with me a long time!! So I cut up a cantalope and ate a few pieces of that.

I am not doing ANYTHING today…

Today WILL be a resting day. My body is going to hold a mutiny if I don’t. I haven’t worked this hard since high school. It doesn’t know what to do with itself!!

Yesterday was a running day and my progress is on my C25k page. At the risk of being redundant, I ran. It hurt. I did it though. It stopped hurting once I got started. After I ran I hit the weight machines. I think I used every machine avaliable for arms, backs, and shoulders. I did about 3 sets of 15 reps on every machine. The weights varied depending on which machine I was on. Well, maybe not EVERY machine, but I worked every muscle there is. By the time I was done, I felt if I lifted another weight I would throw up. I wanted to hop back on the elliptical afterwards but they were all taken so I jumped on a stationary bike for 15 minutes. My knees were crunching though (literally, I could hear and feel the cartalidge crunching) so I felt it best to stop. My upper body isn’t so sore which is surprising. I guess I’m getting stronger. Or maybe I need to up the weights. I just don’t want to overdo it. Slow and steady……

If I do anything today, it will be Debbie Siebers Slim and 6 pack or whatever she calls it. Basically, it’s an 11 minute ab workout. Lots and lots of crunches. Low impact. Hubby and I both agree we need to give our bodies a break. He may go do cardio, but no weights. We’ll go tomorrow and then I’ll go again Thursday to play volleyball. Perhaps I will have a hard body to go along with my 10lb weight loss!!

To eat or not to eat….

I SO want to eat. Not just eat a little or eat something healthy, I want to EAT!!! I have resisted though. I wasn’t going to eat after I worked out, so I made a Weight Watcher smoothie with some strawberries. But after I drank it, I still felt hungry. So I ended up making a potato and red pepper frittata. Plus, I needed to eat so I could take some ibruprofin. I am so sore. I have bruises in weird places. I only know how I got one of them.

I was tempted at lunch today too. I had brought some homemade chili pinto beans and was going to make a taco salad at lunch. Well, my friends dragged me out to Chili’s for lunch. I told myself in my head that I was going to get a side salad with a side of black beans and salsa and just make my own taco salad there. Well, apparantly there is like some samonella scare or something and they had NO tomatos or salsa!! WHAT?!?!?!?! That almost changed everything. I just about went for broke and ordered whatever I felt like. But no, I kept my cool and ordered a side salad with no fat honey mustard dressing. YAY!! I was still hungry when I got back to the office though so I ate my chili beans then.

Breakfast: shredded wheat, fat free milk, strawberries — all core

Snack: frozen grapes — all core

Lunch: side salad with fat free honey mustard (a little shredded cheese), chili pinto beans — all core except for the cheese but there wasn’t that much of it

Snack: cantalope, watermelon — all core

Dinner: weight watchers smoothie with strawberries, potato and red pepper fritatta — all core
triscuits - 2 points (2/35)

TGIF

What was with all the blog maintence today? It really messed up my day since I wasn’t able to mess around on the site all day at work.

I have been SO hungry today. I did really well on my food plan until I got home from work. Then I sort of lost it.

Breakfast: shredded wheat, fat free milk

Lunch: leftover Turkey and Hominy chili; carrots with f/f french dressing

Work Snack: carrots; mini nestle crunch bar

Home Snack: PBJ sandwhich; tortilla chips and dip; 1/2 chicken nugget; a few triscuits; a few spoonfuls of mac and cheese.

WHEW - I guess that was my dinner too b/c I had my weight loss group tonight and….. drum roll please…….

I lost 2.5 lbs since last weigh in!! WOO HOO!!! It’s been about 4 weeks or so since I weighed in b/c I haven’t been to group, but I was proud. I know that 2.5 was over the past 2 weeks because that’s when I started running and sticking to plan. The 2 weeks before that were hit or miss.

Today was an off day for exercise, but I have a full day tomorrow. Hubby wants to get to the gym at 8am, then we have a volleyball game at 10. If(when) we win that game, we play again at noon. Then we have my son’s bday party at 3 - pizza and bowling. I plan on getting a much healthier selection of a salad or veggie sandwhich.

We’re on Poop Patrol

Yes, you read it correctly. My 18 month old swallowed a penny last night. So now we are on poop patrol. The daycare can deal with it today, but I did tell them they could save any messy diapers for me if they didn’t see the penny. Hopefully she’ll pass it within 3 days and I won’t have to take her to get xrays or..SURGERY! Keep your fingers crossed!

Went to the gym again last night. Walked for 20 minutes, but ran the last 2 at a 5.0 pace. I felt like I could keep going, but I decided not to push it. Then I did some leg weights. I’ll go tonight to run.

Food:
Breakfast: shredded wheat, f/f milk, 1/2 banana — core

Lunch: white bean and garlic stew, brown rice — core **I probably ate more than I should have, but I was hungry! When you eat breakfast at 6, it’s a LONG time until 11:00. Plus, with the Core Program, it says to eat until you are satisfied. I just finished and I do not feel full or uncomfortable, so I think I’m okay.

Dinner: We ate at Jason’s Deli after working out. They have a salad bar, so I took avantage of that. Lots of lettuce, peppers, onions, broccoli, tomatos, beans, mushrooms. They didn’t have any fat free dressing, so I tried their Low Fat Organic French. Pretty good! I also put a sprinkling of sunflower seeds on it for some good fat. Oh, and I had 2 crispy flatbreads, that were only 1 point a piece. Then I had samplings of strawberry shortcake, some chocolate mousse, and a mini pumpkin muffin. The salad was core besides the seeds and the dressing. I am going to guess that I had 10 points that were not core. That is probably guessing high, but safe. (14/25)

2 hour workout at the gym. My C25k progress is on my C25k page, you can read it there. I did arms, backs, and abs as well. I am sore. I took an ibubrofin when I got home. I am going to take these next 2 days and REST!!! I have volleyball playoffs on Saturday and I need to be ready. Weigh in day is this Friday. I’m a tad nervous.

Oh, and no penny yet.

Tuesday food journal

Breakfast: shredded wheat, fat free milk - all core

Lunch: watermelon, Taco salad: lettuce, f/f cheese, kidney beans, tomatos, salsa - all core

A friend of mine wanted me to meet her at a new Tijuana Flats that just opened and I said NO! This is HUGE because Tijuana Flats is an absolute favorite of mine and I’m usually there at least once a week. I told her why though and she understood.

Snack: apple, banana - core; triscuits with red-fat cheese 4pts (4/35)

Hungry this afternoon. Not sure why.

Dinner: White Bean and Garlic Stew; brown rice - core

I was going to exercise today. I wanted to do Debbie, but I went and picked up the baby before I went and got my son from school. Then I wanted to take a nap but couldn’t. Really, I’m just being lazy and sitting on the couch folding laundry. I have to get a gift for my son’s teacher (tomorrow is the last day of school) so I thought I’d walk to the store after dinner and my husband gets home. It’s about 5 blocks away.

Okay, I did exercise today. I ended up going to the gym! YAY!! I did 20 minutes on the treadmill, but walked it at 3.6. I ran the last 2 minutes at 5.0 and I could have kept going for awhile, but I didn’t want to push it since tomorrow is my running day. I’ll probably up the speed tomorrow. First day at the gym

I really hate gyms sometimes. There are just so many people and even though I know they aren’t all staring, I feel they are. But anyway, today was the first day at the gym. I ran on the treadmill today. Not sure if I was doing something wrong, but it seemed REAL easy. Makes me nervous.

For you treadmill runners, how fast do you go? I was at a 4.6 pace, and actually bumped it up to 4.8 for my last 2 runs. I felt like I was running at the same pace I do when I run outside, but I’m not sure. It seemed too easy. Any help from you guys would be great.

My eating plan was GREAT today:

Breakfast: shredded wheat, f/f milk, 1/2 banana - all core
Lunch: couscous and veggie bake, watermelon - all core
Snack: apple - core
Lunch: Taco Salad: lettuce, lean ground beef, kidney beans, tomatos, fat free cheese, fat free sour cream, salsa — all core

WOO HOO!!!! I feel good too. My husband met me at the gym and when I was done with my run, we did some weights. He wanted to do legs, but I refused since I had just run (um, hello?!) We did arms instead. I wasn’t able to do much weights since the kids club was closing and I had to get the little ones. But all in all it was good.

I take back every bad thing I’ve ever said about my husband

Okay, maybe not EVERY bad thing, but most of them! He did the BEST thing today!! He got BOTH of us gym memberships!!! We have talked about it in the past, but never did anything about it. This afternoon he went and got us memberships and then went and bought me an IPOD since he wants his MP3 player back!! YAY!!! So now I have a place to run if it is raining (which it will be soon since hurricane season starts tomorrow) AND a place to do some weight training. I want to get rid of these chicken wings that have taken the place of my arms. I have never had a problem wearing tank tops until this year. I have the boobs, but my arms have dissappointed me this year. All flabby. Which is sad. I mean, I carry my kids around and do all sorts of stuff, but they are flabby flabby flabby. Blah… I want to become a HARD BODY. At least in the arms.

So… here’s what happened at the party. I was STARVING. I hadn’t eaten since breakfast and it was almost 3 when we finally ate. Jase’s friend’s mom had made turkey burgers with jalapenos, red peppers, and cheddar cheese in them! YUM!!! I ate one with a whole wheat bun. The cheese made the burger not core, but I don’t think there was enough in it to even equal 1 point, so I am going to say the burgers are core. The bun - obviously not. Corn on the cob - core. The butter not so much. And LOTS AND LOTS of watermelon - core. I did have a piece of double chocolate pie **blush** but it was a small peice and it was SO good!!! I am still proud of myself for what I ate. It could have been a lot worse.

I did go running when I got home. Started week 2. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be (and a whole lot easier than when I did it last week by accident) On the running parts I kept listening to the beat of the music and saying “push”, “push”, “push.” It seemed to help.

I ate a few bites of dinner when I got home and cleaned up. Leftovers from last night. I wanted something sweet afterwards, but instead of eating a peice of cake that was sent home, I ate some watermelon that was sent home.
