Interesting conversation with my trainer today

So I actually got my butt out of bed and to the gym for the first time this week. I feel like such a lazy bum, but in my defense, I have run twice this week. Anyway, I started to run a little on the treadmill and then WOAH!!!! Knee pain out of no where!! Both knees. So I decided to slow down and went to a 10% incline instead. Walked about a mile that way.

Did arms with the trainer. Can I tell you that I saw some muscles working that I usually don’t see. Like I could SEE them. That made me feel like progress is being made SOMEWHERE. Anyway, I was talking to her about my weight b/c I do this weight assisted chin up thing (which I hate) and you have to put the weights near your weight. She asked if I had come down, and I said yeah, but I seem to be stuck at one number. I go either 2lbs +/- 208. So she tried to think of some things that might be causing that. Here’s what we came up with…
***before I begin, I must say that I KNOW my overeating causes it some weeks, but what frustrates me are the weeks that I am at the gym EVERY DAY and really good on my calories. This is what we are trying to figure out***

1. Perhaps I’m not getting enough calories. I knew that. It seems so backwards though. But Spark People says (and my trainer confirmed) that I should be getting 1200-1450 calories a day. She said I should try to average about 1300 a day during a week (some days might be lower, some higher). When I’ve tracked, I’ve been around 1000 or so. I know this, but it seems so backwards!! It’s something I must work on.

2. She told me that instead of running/speed walking, I may get better results by doing the stationary bike for an hour. She thinks my heart rate may be getting too fast and I’m not really losing weight that way either. Hmmm… interesting concept. She basically told me whatever I do, slow down. Slow down to the point I want to shoot myself in the head!! So I will try that for a few weeks and see
what happens. I’ll still do my training of course because that helps build muscle. I guess I’ll start taking books to the gym and perhaps looking into books on CD or downloading off itunes. I will be so bored.

So I need to really think about the things I do. I know I need to up my calorie burnage (not a word, I know) I’ve been trying to think about what I can do to do that. I have a few ideas that I need to chew on and really hammer some things out. Rest of the week is a bust since I won’t be here, but I’m actually looking forward to putting these things into practice next week and see what happens.

Oh, maybe that’s what I’m doing wrong aswell! I also (try to) eat 1000 calories every day, and train, but the scale just won’t budge. And when I see that, I get sooo hopeless… so I eat more than I should.

Anyway… might give it a try to eat 1200 calories. (:

    Good luck to you love!

I’m playing blog catch up here. Your house, very exciting! Your arm muscles being visible when you workout (which I personally cannot even imagine when I look at my noodle arms), very exciting! Your 5k shirt kicks ass! Trip to surprise your guys, fun! Two bags of oreos…… um, yeah…. your new house, very cool!

    Hey, Eryn
just catching up today. I read about all the good stuff you’ve been doing (and that awesome shirt) and then you feel bad about a few Oreos. meh. Don’t sweat it. You’re doing so brilliantly. Love all the great, constructive ideas your trainer gave you on how to help get those pounds off. Ya gotta just love anyone who tells you you’re not eating enough :-)

Congratulations on the house. That’s fantastic. And you son is a cutie.

Oh, yeah, this is really true for me. I was stuck almost 3 weeks at 1600 calories but I went to 2000 and have dropped 4.8 pounds in two weeks! I’ve experienced this before. You really must increase your calories if you’re only getting around 1,000 and exercising - not enough! So glad you made it back and getting your fog gone and have a trainer, etc. All good! See ya!
