Just another 3fatchicks.com weblog

St. Peter don’t you call me, ‘cuz I can’t go…….anybody remember that old tune? Well, birthday has come and gone, and I don’t seem to be any worse for the wear. Looks like I’ll make it awhile longer. My lil’ kiddoes called me from Venice Beach to say Happy Birthday, and they sounded like they were having so much fun together. They are just the best. It makes me so happy to hear them being so happy in each other’s company. And, back here on the home front, my other local daughter, who is also the best, came with her DH and little boy, and brought seven - count ‘em - SEVEN - big lobsters, two big pots (I have the real big lobster pot here) and a big salad and baked potatoes with sour cream. So we had a real feast for ourselves, plus a beautiful chocolate cake that I shouldn’t have had any of, but did, and it was yummy. (Right back on track today, honest!)

Before dinner last night, DH & I had a busy, busy, running around kind of day, starting with feeding DD30’s cats, and then 25 miles to the auction house that I like so much to get the two sculpture pedestals that I bid on - and won - last week. They’re nothing special; just built of plywood, four-sided, tall and perfectly plain, painted a dark, dark walnutty brown. One is about a foot taller than the other, and they’re about a foot square at the tops. But I’m using them in my foyer with a piece of reproduction pre-columbian sculpture on one, and a terra cotta Pottery vase on the other. Behind and above them, I’m going to hang the six small mirrors (that I drove down to Ikea to get) with the 6″ wide dark brown frames in two verticle rows. Then, after we picked them up, we went to Home Depot to get knobs for the cabinets in the kitchen that DH put the punched tin inserts into - the old door pulls just weren’t right with the punched tin. The ones we bought at Home Depot are just perfect. THEN we had lunch at Applebee’s and I remained quite virtuous and orderedĀ from their Weight Watchers menu. Then, we went grocery shopping, and then we came home. Phew. (Then DD30 came.) But I must say that I DID sleep extremely well last night, so perhaps I NEED to spend more time moving about and DOING things as opposed to sitting behind a desk all day, and then I will sleep better.

Anyway, here it is, Sunday, and I still have two more days ahead of me when I don’t have to drive into Boston to work!!! (Today & tomorrow). That feels really great, I’ve got to say. We’ve agreed to go feed the (other) cats in about an hour, and then go and do some walking. I don’t feel much like exercising, but then I never really do, so if I went by what I FEEL like doing, I guess I never would get out there and move at all. Oh, I also bought myself some three-pound hand weights, and I’m going to start doing some exercises to get rid of the jiggles in the backs of my upper arms. I’ve made up my mind to be a skinny old lady, and that’s all there is to it.

Well, I’d better get going here - don’t want DD’s cats to feel neglected.

Have a grand day, everyone!

Hugs,

Z

Sounds like you had a lovely birthday. I thought of you today at the craft show I went to—they had a lot of chunky jewlery on display, some really beautiful, just stunning pieces.

Enjoy the extra kitties and the rest of your time off. We stopped by the SPCA on our way home today from the 5K ( I should know better, I always leave in tears) and I saw several I would take if I could—dh is highly allergic.

You know, it really isn’t a birthday if you don’t have cake :-) It sounds like you had a great day.

Thanks for the comment on my site.

Have you got your copy of Jon’s book yet? I really like his positive outlook and reassuring manner.
