Women’s unity. We can be our own worst enemies, because we don’t stick together, and we let men come between us. Really. Every woman who believes it when some guy tells her “My wife is a beotch”, or “We’re separated”, or, “She just doesn’t understand me”, or any one of the million things men will tell you to convince you that you ought to sleep with them…well, THAT woman is betraying her sisters, and that’s the truth. Whenever we defer to men - allow them to control or manipulate us, we’re contributing to and enabling the overall oppression of women everywhere.
And that’s MY rant for this morning! LOL. Snippets of philosophy…that’s me…the snippet woman.
So this is actually going to be about my diet (Oh, my!) because I switched to counting Weight Watcher points, I’m liking it, and I’m hoping that it will jolt me off this freaking plateau that I’ve been sitting on for Lo, these many (3) weeks now. I have read of others on plateaus for months at a time and I can honestly say I don’t think I could survive that. I have re-discovered TOMATOES, which I love passionately, but not the variety available in grocery stores…no….if I am to have a tomato, it must be a FRESH-PICKED tomato, and seeing as how I don’t garden, one might consider that the impossible dream, eh? Oh, not so, not so. My NEIGHBORS garden…yes, they do…but in an extremely half-a$$ed manner, actually. That is to say, they plant stuff and then it grows until it’s OVERgrown, and falls off the vine and rots. Seriously. OR, they pick zuchinni and cucumbers when they’ve become as big as baseball bats and try to give them to us. Nuh-uh. No thanks. What hell do you do with a zuchinni the size of a baseball bat, anyway? (Except thicker - way thicker than a baseball bat.) I mean that’s just nasty - and it’s annoying, because if they picked them when they were smaller, they’d be great, you know? Well, they also grow tomatoes - and let them rot on the vine, as well. It’s really been bugging me, because I can just TASTE those danged tomatoes from over here. So, they’re away at the Cape for a couple of days, and in the dead of night (well, after dark, anyway - maybe @ 9:30) I put on my long BLACK bathrobe, took my dark-colored recycled grocery bag, and snuck over into their neglected garden and got us four big juicy tomatoes! DH was in hysterics….he was calling out the window, “Who’s THERE? I’m calling 911 !!!! I was trying so hard not to laugh I almost peed myself. But we had fresh tomatoes with our lunches yesterday and for supper, too, and they were SUPERB…just like my daddy used to grow, and as kids, we would cut ourselves one big thick slice of one of those suckers, put it on toast with a little bit of butter and make us a sandwich, and ohhhhhh, man, were those good! No sandwich for me now, but those tomatoes were/are heavenly (I’ve got two more!!!).
Weight Watchers assigns tomatoes ZERO points!!!! Can you imagine? I guess it’s because they’re low in calories, fat-free, and high in fiber! OMIGAWD! I could eat unlimited fresh tomatoes! I have to do a quick run over to my neighbor’s garden again tonight.
I hope they’re enjoying their vacay, yanno?
I have to be 40 miles away at a meeting at 10:00 this morning. I have washed my hair and dawdled about here, and now I must have my bath and get dressed. WHY, she cries in despair….WHY didn’t I marry an extremely wealthy dude this time around and be able to stay at home lounging about in my peignoir? (Beacuse I’d be bored out of my ever-lovin’ MIND, that’s why!)
So, off to the J.O.B., and another day of counting points and eating pilfered tomatoes!
E!

Loved your picture today and your bit of woman philosophy; laughed my butt off imagining you waltzing around in the dark relieving your neighbors of their tomatoes…let me know if you come south; I’ll have to rig my 2 little potted plants with an alarm, actually I keep them picked clean, so I suppose they are safe from the tomato liberator…soclose/just10more
August 22, 2007 @ 10:24 amhaha, that’s hysterical! There’s nothing like a vine ripe tomato, so I absolutely condone your midnight pilfering!
August 22, 2007 @ 4:53 pmDamn, that was too funny
I really admired what you said about supporting each other… it’s something that we SO overlook sometimes….
ms. ella - you’re the writer here… I see a screenplay in your future
