Day 1 + Food Log

cardioqueen on Jun 26th 2008 10:16 am

Today I weighed myself after having eaten a banana, cereal with soy milk and some water. Why? Perhaps I wanted to torture myself. I haven’t weighed in in months which is probably my problem.  I was 160.2 by the way.  I really want to get back on Weight Watchers because it was so easy to follow, but as a poor college student I’m having a really hard time affording it. So I’m going to do something else. For the next 3 weeks I’m going to stop going out, stop drinking, and just focus on my health. Who knows, maybe the habit will stick but doing this guarantees me a couple things:

1. I’ll have a lot more money in my pocket.
2. I’ll be making better choices for my health.

So the next 3 weeks are going to be pretty intense. Today is Day 1 for me.

Food Log is as follows:

Breakfast Medium banana, Raisin bran w/ soy milk, 32 oz water

Breakfast
Coffee w/ soy milk & splenda
2 flax seed pancakes (180 calories)

Exercise
10-minute Pilates

Snack
Coffee w/ soy milk & splenda

Lunch
Brussels Sprouts
Boca Burger, Chicken
2 slices whole grain bread
Ketchup

Snack
Kashi granola bar
Natural popcorn

Dinner
12 oz strawberry margarita (yummy, but high cal I know)
Quesadilla Mexicana (chicken)

Summary
I think I indulged at dinnertime.  I went out to dinner with an old girlfriend I haven’t seen in years.  I don’t often go out to eat, so I let myself have a little slack I guess.  It could have been better–but it sure could have been worse too!  Overall, I think I did pretty well.

South Beach or Calorie Counting?

cardioqueen on Jun 11th 2008 08:31 am

I’ve tried both and had success with both.  Downside is that I have the tendency to become obsessed with food when I do either way.  I had great results with South Beach, but hated not being able to eat out without making extreme provisions.  On the other hand, counting calories made me obsessed about everything.   I’m going grocery shopping in 2 weeks so I have until then to decide which route I plan on going.

What do you guys think?

Food Log: June 10

Breakfast

1 serving flax seed pancakes
Sugar-free syrup
Glass of water

Exercise
15 minutes jog/walk
15 minutes Yoga Booty Hip-Hop Abs

Glass of water

Lunch

Brussel Sprouts
Veggie Baked Beans

Snack

About 20-25 sour gummi worms ( at least 146 calories :( )

Dinner

DQ Cheeseburger
Strawberry Cheesequake  Blizzard (small)

Summary:

Holy, smokes guys!  Clearly I lost my mind after lunch.  Clearly I did.  All that working out for nothing.  It all started with that bag of gummies.  I have an insatiable sweet tooth and haven’t had any sugar for like…days.  So I started out by eating just a 110 cal serving, which turned into most of the entire bag.  Crap.  Then my stop at DQ.  I’m ridiculous.

I’m seriously considering counting calories again.  I lost a lot of weight when I was counting calories, I just am scared I’ll get obsessed again.  Perhaps it’s worth a shot.  I lost 30 pounds by counting calories.  I think I’m going to have to try it again.  Because eyeballing my portions isn’t working for me.

Food Log

Breakfast:

3 small flax seed pancakes

Sugar-free syrup

Lunch:

Chicken thigh
1/2 rib

BBQ sauce

1 cup vegetarian baked beans

Snack:

Kashi granola bar

Dinnner:

Jalepeno poppers
Veggie baked beans

Snack:

Tortilla chips, salsa
Pack of starbursts

Clearly, I could have made much better choices.  It’s hard being a college student, trying to afford gas, trying to afford food, tuition, etc. and still eating healthily.  I am going grocery shopping next week, so I’ll definitely be stocking up on healthy foods.  I ate way too much crap today.
