Same Old Same Old
Well, I seem to have maintained that one pound loss (read, I am plateauing, kinda!). What can I say? I am eating well BUT those wedding shows and their free cake samples…
Yesterday I walked over and got my hair trimmed (30 minutes roughly in walking) and did a little bit of ab weights at night. I ordered my wedding invitations and stopped at the nearby wedding show.
There I met a dress maker I was quite impressed with. (Did I mention that the dress we all love - albeit hard to find- costs roughly $3K?!!! My what good taste we all have!). This dressmaker had a really nice dress which she can make to my specifications so it will be a variation of that dress. Oh, I forgot to mention that even if I found that wonderful dress we all love - samples are only in a size 10 and maybe size 12. I have a problem holding a dress against me, guessing what it will look like and spending $3K for it. The dressmaker can make my dress just below knee length (which is what I actually wanted - it is a morning wedding after all), and she can make the top lacey (like the top of that dress - although apparently that is a laser cut material not lace on it) and a plain silk skirt AND she can make them separate pieces so I can wear them again together or individually. Also, she will make me a belaro jacket to wear for the ceremony and apparently with that lace it melds together so well no one will know it is a separate jacket until I remove it. Sounds good? I don’t have to decide until March (so I ahve a bit of time to lose some tummy) and she can bring it in for about $1600. I still think that is a lot of money for a dress, but if I can wear it again it makes it easier to stomach.
OK, that was a LONG paragraph for a blog. Congratulations if you read it all! This morning I am going to the gym. I can read/mark some essays on the recumbent bike. A woman who did not make my shower last weekend is taking me out for lunch (Greek restaurant so I can order salad!) today. This afternoon Mom wants to go to that weddingshow to see if the dressmaker can make her something. I planned to go back to take a photo of the dress I like (it is a longer version than I want and I can change it from that top to a halter one).
I still have not ruled out the designer Goodwill in my neighbourhood. Yes, I said “Designer Goodwill”. I live on the outskirts of one of the wealthy parts of Toronto and when the rich women get tired of their designer stuff, they dump it into good will. I have seen every designer there. So, why pay $1400 when you can pay $14.99?? I once got a leather blazer for $15 and when I got home I saw that the original tag plastic togs were still on it!
Have a good one.
I would take a “goodwill” dress over the custom one any ole day but you gotta find one first.
Think of how far 1600 will go towards a new home for you and hubby. Practically all of closing costs.
Enjoy grading papers.
I read all the wedding details, but maybe that’s because I got married last June and a year ago I was in the thick of wedding planning like you are now! I had my dress custom-made too, and was really happy I did. I didn’t have to worry about part of my body being to big for one size and having to deal w alterations etc. There are no sizes in custom dresses either, so you don’t have that shock to deal w. My dress was serious $$$ but I was very happy with it.
Sounds like your weight is on a good track — you can’t call it a plateau unless it’s over 2 weeks!
Keep up the great work & good attitude!
Yeah, I agree with round, the tailor would be a much better option! I THINK I would spend 1600 on my wedding dress, 3k would be a bit much though. But that would depend on where I am financially at that point of time. It’s a bit of a splurge but then it’s a splurge day in general.
I would like to pay a visit to your Goodwill!
I love the idea of an individually tailored dress, it will be so much more special, and you can have it exactly how you want it, especially for wearing it again!
And I agree with round, it’s not a plateau yet, keep going, you’re doing great!
How are those essays btw? My thesis is still lying neglected but will try and do some work on it today
I would love to visit that goodwill too. Sounds good.
The wedding dresss sounds lovely.
