Fighting the Dark Cloud of pudge!!

a journey into the psyche of weight gain

hydroxcut et al

In response to Bosox, “Although I am sure there is some sort of upper in hydroxycut (it perks me up when I am PMS, I can tell you!) I doubt it is speed as the product is sold on the shelf of drugstores and supermarkets.”

One thing I have noticed is that is becomes less effective the more you use it.  And that happens quickly.  Not that I am recommending anyone take it (most certainly without an endorsement contract from the company!!!!) but it helps when you plateau to take it for a couple of days.  I know this one bottle has been kicking around my cupboard for about  year now (long expiration dates!).  I do not take it too often.  In fact, I only know about it because I weight lift!  There are others on the market too, like slimquick (which did nothing for me but might work for others).

What can I say???  Like most people, I would love the fast way to weight loss. Dropping 1 - 2 pounds a month does nothing for me mentally, and I swear the weight came on much much quicker.

As I said before, maybe the weightloss people feed us these lines like “more than 1 - 2 pound loss a week <as if I could do that!!!> is not a safe level of weight loss.”  In retrospect, I heard that at WW.  Don’t they make more money if it takes us longer to lose?  Don’t they make more money if we have to go to more weeks of meetings?

Perhaps I am just looking for a conspiracy theory.  But I was much happier when I took some pills and lost some weight.  And yes, it did not stay off, but neither did the weight I lost painstakingly over a year through WW!!  Hmmm…

Yes, I do use this blog as a way to consolidate my thoughts…so bear with me!  Once I have figured this out, I will start my own weightloss group.  Perhaps I will call it “Fatties Unite!”.  What do you think??

I am away to CT to see my fiance this weekend.  Somehow, you must manage without me!!!!!!!!!!!  Just don’t overdoes on hydroxycut and sue me!!!  I am not recommending anything!

Cheers!

All bets are in and….

Yes, I had the pizza- 4 slices - not huge ones, but still 4.  I had stopped at three but 4 hours later, as I was leaving I realized the lone slice sitting there would attract the mice in the school and I wouldn’t want that, right?!!

My last posting got a lot of responses - well a lot for me.  AND I thank you for them.  Weight loss is a mutlimillion dollar industry and they make the money from us trying, not succeeding.  It is like the Las Vegas crap shoot. If one or two win, others will try to follow.  And really, most of those supermodels are coke heads who never eat and die of malnutrition. What is the fashion industry doing to us??  We should start a revolution!  Or will they think we are doing it JUST because we are fat?!!

Hydroxycut, for those who asked and those who wondered but didn’t ask, is a weight loss pill.  It is used by body builders to lose fat and get a more “cut” look.  It is available in most drugstores here in Canada now.  It used to be only available in body builder type stores.

OK, I am making dinner.  Salmon, corn on the cob, and some fried veggies (not too much oil).  I do have fruit tarts for dessert!

Enjoy the evening

lost weekend???

Where has the time gone??  I have been a somewhat good girl.  I have been good in that I have not been eating badly so am losing some weight.  I am bad because I was taking hydroxycut and not really eating at all other than dinner.  Do you think all of that diet research such as “breakfast is the most important meal of the day” were commissioned by groups who stand to make money like breakfast cereal companies and the egg marketing board?  I wonder.  Once when I was in the dr’s office I was reading the brochure on how milk can help you lose weight and saw in the fine print that the milk marketing board gave a healthy grant to the study.

Maybe 5 or 7 small meals is not good for us.  Maybe we really only need one meal a day.  Who knows?  I have not been taking the full  recommended dosage of hydroxycut.  Today I did break down and have two slices of pizza.  Not HUGE slices mind.  I had ordered it in for the kids who are giving up two mornings of their summer break to be trained as student leaders for the incoming grade 9s.  Tomorrow is day 2.  Perhaps I should admit now that I will eat pizza again tomorrow.

Maybe the reason there is an obesity problem in North America is because we all read those studies!

fat aliens have taken over my body!!

I do not know what is going on!  All I want to do is eat chocolate, and chips (I have never been a chip person!) and so on.  It is not reflecting on the scale too much, but it will.  I am only up a pound which considering what the aliens are up to, that is pretty good!

So, what has been going on?  Well, I went into school.  Amazing how disorganized it all is for the start after Labour Day.  Add to that the work on my office (tearing up the 1970s groovy dust infested carpet and putting in tiles) was not done.  When I asked about it it seems the guys came in in June!  Did I want to look around and see if they did another office by mistake?!!!! (no, how would that help me?!!!)  Also, the Grade 9 orientation programme I have worked on for 4 months seems to have been forgotten as letters went out to the incoming grade 9s telling them about a totally different orientation!  Hmmm..  I took it surprisingly well.

Yesterday I was stopped at the light- a streetcar in front of me.  Some guy decides to move his Cadillac Seville from the curbside parking, do a U’ey in front of me (and behind the streetcar).  Of course he cannot see the oncoming traffic or that streetcar coming the other way.  Crash!  Boom!  Bang!  The streetcar driver tried to stop but those things take some effort to stop so he hit the caddy which then got pushed into my car.  No one was hurt thankfully.  My car is drivable but needs an estimate $2K in body work now.  My third accident since last fall!!  And I thought a yellow car was safer!!! OY!

Other than that, my pending period has made me decide it is time to do some cleaning/purging.  So, the place is a mess but coming along.  Spring cleaning? Better late than never!!

I got a postcard from Weight Watchers today inviting me back!!  Makes me think……

Cheers! (I know I could use a chocolate martini!)

Rogue pound

Just when I thought I was beginning to figure it all out, I ate well and lost the rogue pound.  Hmm.. Makes me wonder.

Well I have been trying to figure out this prenuptial thing - figuring there was a guideline form on line I could use  but alas no.  I did however go to a dried flower wholesaler and get some flowers to make a makeshift bouquet for the city hall civil wedding.  Once I discovered Immigration would want photos I figured jeans and dandelions would not do!  I rather like my handiwork although I am sure it would fail the martha stewart test!

I hope none of you are hording the rogue pound only to send it back postage due!!

Cheers

Mother nature’s sense of humour

Ok, so yesterday I was p.o.’ed that I was not losing so I ate badly.  And I gained a pound!  Now why is it if I eat well I don’t lose a pound but if I eat badly (and I am not talking binge!) I gain a pound.  Tell me Mother nature does not have a wicked sense of humour?!!

scales don’t lie!

OK, how is it that I have been good (not GREAT, but good) for three days and not a budge on the scale?!!  How unfair is that?! I used to do better when I had a box of Cadbury chocolate fingers for dinner!!!  :(

Other than that, I am feeling better .  I am even feeling a bit thinner.  I cannot claim it is muscle as I have been too sick to exercise!  This is the reason people do not successfully diet.  No tried and true formula.  It is not like you can say “I’ll skip ice cream for dessert” and the next day see the results.  Perhaps Mother Nature has a cruel side?!!

On a brighter note, I found a hall I like.   I am meeting with two more, and then, of course, there is the bridal show coming up at the end of Sept.  In the mean time, we have looked at the immigration issues.  If he applies as an individual 18 or so months!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  If I sponsor him as a spouse, 3 - 12 months!!  Hmm…  So we are looking at doing a civil ceremony next month. (getting the paperwork from that will take until Xmas so I can’t even begin the process until Dec!!) And, of course the real wedding next July.   Only I would get married and the next day go to the bridal show!!

Cheers

Feeling better

Goodness knows this cold thingy (imported from Europe, of course!) is taking the wind out of my sails these days.  I am more motivated than ever to lose this weight.  So, I am setting unrealistic goals for myself!!!!  Don’t we always do that?  Although my weight loss goals are lofty (can you use the term ‘lofty” when looking at reducing??) my short term goals are a bit more realistic.  As I mentioned yesterday, removing wheat (which I shouldn’t be eating due to my allergy) and chocolate (which I shouldn’t be eating- even if it was my largest food group!). Instead I am trying to load up on fruits, and stay away from processed products.

Interestingly enough I read an article just yesterday stating that pregnant women who consume largely junk food cause a “rewiring” of their baby’s brain to crave that food which results in LIFELONG poor eating habits.  Well, we knew all along to blame Mom now, didn’t we?!!  I have LOOOONNNGGG  suspected I had fetal chocoholic syndrome and now I have documented evidence!!!  Of course, now that I have proof, what am I going to do to rewire my brain?  Dr. Frankenstein, I presume!!???!

We are looking at a July 2008 wedding.  I am thinking of looking for my dress at the end of Jan.  I know this is a short turn around but there is a local charity place which has new, and used gowns, and the proceeds go to children’s charities.  Here is the site  http://www.thebridesproject.com/.  Personally, I am not all that bothered with my gown, but I am considering going there.  My other frame of mind is a smart evening suit in cream (which suits me more than white).  Either way, I tend to have pretty standard measurements (at any size) so don’t need a lot of alterations. AND, as we all know, I want to lose a fair chunk of weight before  I choose anything.  So, that is the wedding update!

In the meantime, we are going ring shopping when I am in CT over Labour Day  so Paul figures he will have it to give me when he comes back up at the end of Sept.

Now,  go out there and blame your Mothers!

Cheers

sick as a dog…

Both Paul and I managed to catch colds while we were abroad and I can’t seem to shake mine.  Granted I have had a weakened immunity system since getting a killer lung infection last year (3 rounds of antibiotics!!).

As I start planning the wedding (no date yet- but thanks to all who responded to my last posting!) I am more determined than ever to lose those extra extra extra pounds.  today I was actually good - no chocolate and no wheat.  Could this be the start of something beautiful???

OK, back to bed for me!

I’m baaack!

Got back from vacation last night. AND I did not gain weight/  How did this happen?  I did eat.  I did a lot of walking but I felt bigger at times (and probably was).  At least all the clothes fit when I needed them to!

And for the record, Paul did propose in Paris.  We were on the romantic Seine river dinner cruise, dancing to his requested En Vie En Rose and passing under the lit up Eiffel tour.  He felt the moment wouldn’t get any better so asked!  AND then after we got off the boat he proposed AGAIN directly under the Eiffel tour, getting down on one knee.  Ok, he shooed the tourists off the spot, telling them to gather around as he had business to do! Then he got down on one knee and asked (previously telling me I would have to answer quickly before his knee gave out on the grid!!).  For the record, I accepted!

A few days later we went to Montmartre and had  an artist sketch a portrait of us. Paul hates it as he thinks we look 16(is tat wrong???) but I like it and it was for me so he was happy with that.

We now both have colds from being caught in the rain, and a temp drop, in Paris.  Yet another souvenir!

Cheers!
