memorial day eats

I usually have a 3 day weekend all the time, but it’s nice not to go back to the job until Tuesday.  No big plans and no cookouts, but I am making crab cakes for tonight and mushrooms.  I could eat mushrooms all day.  I haven’t been applying myself this week but haven’t run rampant.  Made vegetable soup this afternoon and now I’m going to take a nap.  Later I might work up the energy to post some ebay stuff for sale - would be a miracle!

Not a lot of exercise but more than usual.  Dropped my car off Monday for work and walked the 1 1/2 miles home on a beautiful morning.  Thursday was dance and a walk downtown, but I’ve been a lump all weekend.

what am I doing?!!!

Boy, have I been doing horrible.  It’s true that once you slip up it’s all downhill from there, and I’ve been falling down mt. everest for about 3 weeks.  Just ate the last potato chip in the house ( a good thing) and all the sweets are gone.  I’ve got to get back to my routine, which was working slowly but surely.

A big part of my problem was my routine was thrown off by too many visiting relatives.  This meant going out, eating different foods and just screwing up on my part.  My friends and I have a sort of routine eating out schedule with thai, veggie, etc. but that went out the window with the buffet relatives.  I also have not gotten into my spring walking habits.

So now it’s back to the homemade soups and salads.  I have a quasi-greek salad that I make in the summer - good on the plate and in pita.

It’s kinda greek to me salad:

  • 1 cucumber peeled and diced
  • 1 roma tomato peeled and diced
  • 1/2 red onion diced
  • 4 to 6 0zs. feta crumbled
  • greek salad dressing

The amount of dressing is up to you, but use a little at first because cucumbers will make juice. You can also change up the amounts to your taste.  I had this at a little bistro once -  very refreshing!

a beautiful day

It’s a wonderful spring day, and while I must get outside soon I’m going to write a quickie.  I’m hoping to get in a good walk tonight if it doesn’t rain and then I need to get on the scale - haven’t done that in 2 weeks.  I can pretty much tell what’s happening by looking at my stomach - can I see my toes?  I actually have a body that gains weight all over but have started to get a little tummy in my advancing years.  Now I need to get to a store and buy a new boombox; my cassette player has died.  I know, it’s the 21st century, and I do own an ipod, but I listen to books on cassette that I own to put me to sleep.  Saw a sony at walmart.

Lose that weight!

back to reality

With my 12 week weigh-in over and my health back on track, I can now start to think about the never ending diet.  My cousins have shoved off back to Indianapolis, so I don’t have to think about feeding and eating with others.  Spring is here and I walked yesterday.  Thursday I wore my pedometer to dance - over 7000 steps and 3 miles!  I’ve got to do that more often. 

My eating habits have been a bit strange lately, with some days very smooth and other days I want to eat anything I can get my hands on!  I’m going to try a mini-goal of 10 pounds by June 18th.  That is when I’m going to Seattle to see a friend and party at the summer solstice weekend.  Wish me luck and luck to you!
