It’s been too long since I posted, and I was doing so well! But the past 2 weeks have been horrible - and not because I’ve been eating anything yummy.
***bodily functions about to be discussed - enter at your own risk!***
I take lisoprinol for borderline blood pressure. I’ve been on it a little over a month even though I don’t think it’s needed. About 2 weeks ago I started having crap troubles and a nasty cough. Thought cough was my sinuses and bathroom problems maybe too much fiber/good stuff. My guts sometimes have a problem with seeds/skins. After reading up on the internet many people say they have both these side effects from the pill I was taking - freakin’ wonderful.
I stopped taking the pill. Cough has vanished. Almost took myself off to the emergency room for blockage after trying EVERYTHING, but I’ve started a herbal cleanse from herbalife and I think slowly it’s working. Needless to say I gained 5 pounds in a week because it was all still inside!!
Once I get back in the groove I’ll start back on a diuretic I used to take for edema from my thyroid - never had any trouble from that and I think my doctor just makes me nervous. I never seem to have any trouble at other docs with my pressure. Pill pusher.

Here in Maryland the weather is doing it’s ” I don’t know if it’s spring or winter” thing, and just like always my head feels like it’s going to explode. My sinuses are the only real problem I ever have when it comes to getting sick. Yesterday I felt like my head was going to float off into the ether, but after some sudafed and hot teas today is a little better. Went with friends to our favorite vietnamese place and I did very well. I highly recommend vietnamese or thai if you want to eat out - it’s lighter than chinese. And plan on taking home leftovers for the next days lunch.
Made bean soup, and for dinner we had artichokes. Yes, that’s all we had, the whole artichoke. A little light oleo or olive oil for dipping the leaves and then the heart. They were on sale at the store and looked good for a change. I’ve been trying to have a light supper and if I get hungry after popcorn or a 100 calorie pack of something. I’ll get on the scale tomorrow morning and see if I’ve made any progress this week. This will be week 6 and we’re going to get re-measured. I can tell that my “buttshelf” is getting smaller - yeah!

weigh-in last night, and I managed to stay the same as last week - yeah! When I weighed at home in the a.m. I was up 2 pounds. Line dancing after, but didn’t stay too long - wanted to get home and watch Lost. Don’t know why I bother with the show, it’s jumped the shark as far as I’m concerned.
Went to the grocery store to stock up on soup stuff, so it’s back on the diet train for me. Maybe this weekend I’ll work off some pounds doing the much needed cleaning of my place. Next hurdle is Easter - ham heaven awaits.
We talked about portion sizes last night at meeting, and the test we took I got mostly correct - after years I’m pretty aware of what I should be eating. I’m sure we all are, it’s just a matter of doing. 1/2 cup of rice is really hard for me to do, but I can with thought. And 5-9 servings of veg and fruit is just about impossible unless I eat salad.

Boy, was I horrible this week! My birthday bought out the worst in me, with 2 days of eating way too much. No cake or sweets, but pizza and mexican were my downfall. Now I’ve got to try to undo my mistakes by tomorrow - weigh-in day. This week I think I’ll end up paying money for gaining, but you can’t win them all. I actually feel like the comic Ron White, who say in one of his shows he’s “one good crap away from backing into an old wardrobe.” Come on Fiber One!
Good news on the money front, as I go to pick up my taxes today and should get back about a grand - just what I need to get the air conditioner fixed in the cruiser in time for summer.
Everyone hang in there - think light thoughts!!

Had a good week and was very surprised to lose 4 pounds, but those kind of surprises are the ones we want. Made vegetable beef barley soup and it was yummy. My birthday was yesterday - the big 47. At work my boss bought us all healthy choice soup to celebrate! I work at a bakery, so I don’t need the temptation of cake. Today I’m going to an open house at my city recreation center to check out the exercise room and hopefully sign up - wish me luck

Okay, it’s a beautiful day here in Maryland, but I just couldn’t care less. No real reason, just down. I did fairly well over the weekend with the eating. I made meatloaf on Saturday for a treat, and only ate 1 piece at the meal! A minor miracle. Salad for dinner last night. I’m trying to make dinner the smallest meal of the day and eat earlier - hard because I’ve gotten used to 7:30 being early. Today I’m going to make Italian wedding soup, which I love and is so easy. Much better for you than the canned, which I do eat for breakfast at work! Yes, soup for breakfast. It’s a controlled portion that is very filling. My job starts at 6 A.M. so we break at 9 for breakfast. Campbells healthy request italian wedding soup - you can eat the whole can for under 250 calories.
Here’s my homemade version:
- 4 cans low sodium chicken stock
- 4 cups water
- 2 teaspoons chicken boullion
- 1/2 box frozen spinach
- tiny meatballs - my grocery store has frozen bags of them and I use the whole bag - 12 oz.
- 1/3 to 1/2 cup acini de pepe pasta
bring stock to a boil and add spinach, meatballs and pasta. cook until done.
It’s as simple as that! The whole pot has about 1200 calories and you’ll get a lot of bowls. If you want a TON of the pasta use 1/2 cup or cut back to 1/3 for a fine amount.
Enjoy and keep on plugging away at that fat!
